All right Sierra was running fine, started idled all good.

Let it sit a while now it won't run.

This is what I've narrowed it down to.

It turns over fine, it gets fuel fine, the fuel pump is working fine, but I'm getting no spark at the plug from the lead or out of the Coil. I've traced 12.xx volts that goes to the coil when I switch the ignition on but nothing from there.

So have I narrowed it down to a faulty coil or could there be something else worth checking that might be masking the problem? OR have I'm just trying to cover all areas before I fork out on a new coil. Also I cant drop into a shop an just buy one where I am at the moment.

Also if I put the multi-meter on the coil, as in positive on positive and negative on negative with the ignition turned on should I have a completed circuit and should the multi-meter read 12.xx volts? I'd like to do a bench test to know the resistance for the coil and check to see if it's within the range indicated but I'm unable to find info so far to see if it is.

The negative terminal on the coil should have +12V (meter negative on ground) with the ignition on and the engine not running - the ignition system generates the spark by alternately switching that terminal to ground and releasing it - the spark is generated every time it is released.

Pull your distributer cap off and clean all the contacts. the 4 contacts on the dizzy cap, and the one contact on the dizzy rotor.

All right new coil is in, had the lady friend bring a new one back for me, scored it at a cool $27 dorra.

Coil is in and no change or spark. Need to test the coil to distributor to see that it isnt the issue.

Can someone tell me more about the Dizzy/distributor? Can they simply pack it in and stop working?

Also starting to look for a working whole distributor if anyone has a working one to sell.

Assuming this is the stock G13 ignition setup then you basically have a coil and a trigger/ignitor module built into the dizzy. Its very rare but the module inside the dizzy can die but is quite possible. I would take the dizzy cap and rotor off and just check the air gap between the rotating trigger teeth and the pickup module. They should be very close to each other ie a couple of paper widths or so but should not touch. Before that I would be carefully checking the condition of the 2 wires and plug for breaks/cracks/dirt going from the dizzy to the coil.

Have you downloaded the SJ413 service manual here: http://www.suzukiinfo.com/sierra/suzuki ... 413fsm.pdf

The procedure for testing the distributor and setting the gap is in the Ignition chapter.

Disconnect the positive lead from the coil - Turn the key on and test with a multi meter from the lead to ground. It should read the same voltage as the battery.

I'm assuming that this statement means he has power to the coil?

One step at a time :) He said he checked it by testing across the coil???? I thought anyway :D

Did you work out what was the issue?
I have a sierra with a g13a engine that was running rough and just died now it has no spark?
There is power to the coil but it isn't pulsing when the engine is cranking?

Do you have voltage to the coil?
