I need to replace tailshaft diff oil seal. It leaks a bit. Does anyone remember if it is hard to remove that big bolt holding the flange? (what socket need I use, 22mm?) If I don't whant to change bearing I guess I dont neet to worry about preloding it. Is it possible to remove that big nut holding the flange without rattle gun? should I use thread lock cement later? I don't want to start the job before easter if it involves to much work. Thanks. Chris |

you need a 27mm socket and it can be done without a rattle gun but you have to brace the flange so it can't turn and use a massive breaker bar |

them nuts have an locking on them ( there is an pice of the nut that is presed in to an grove in the thed of the bolt and you will have to lever that out befor it will undo ) when puting it back on just punch the nut back in to the grove i nthe tred as that is what locks them in |

Use a rattlegun if you can. I knocked mine over in less than 1/2 hour when I did mine. |

my car is evil and after 2 hours i gave up, rattle gun, breaker bar whole kit and shit so i gave up and it leaks happily ever after. ANYWAY use a genuine seal or there is no point doing it |

Could'nt get a genuine seal for mine as the (rather large) Suzuki dealer I went to could'nt organise a root in a brothel, so after 2 weeks of having my car off the road and waiting for them to get me the correct seal, I stopped in at one of our customers called BSC motion technology (similar to CBC bearings) and matched up my old seal with a new one. Suprise, suprise, it took the parts interpreter there less than 60 seconds to go round the back and bring me the correct seal. It was the same brand and part number as the original seal, so I was even happier. Cost me something like a whole $10. Did the job, and no drama's since. |

cool cool well being the same brand and eveything makes it genuine as far as i am concerned i just mean nobody ever seems to be able to duplicate seals properly. sam |

Thanks, I thought that diff flange nut is same size as t-case one (28mm), but it look's like I will have another socket in my set. I got oil seal from suzuki dealer (1km from my place). I thought to try to undo the nut if I block the wheels somehow. I guess it wouldn't work. |

dodgy way is to get a really big breaker bar and then slide a big piece of pipe over that ( at least 1500 long ) Then lock your hubs engage 4wd and either drive forward or backward ( work this out first righty tighty lefty loosy) GENTLY SLIPPING THE CLUTCH until you load it up enough to make it undo. make sure your socket stays on the nut as this may round the nut if it slips half off. |
