Running 31's and I'm torn on which to go for $629 i can go 5.14 and get a 127% reduction or go the 4.9 for$525 with a 115% which really isn't much and over $100 cheaper which can go towards a rebuild kit.
anyone had experience with either?

I ran the 4.9s on 30's which went quite well but the slightly extra reduction of the 5.14's would have been great in the extremely rocky and hard going terrain. In the end I guess it depends on what sort of wheeling you do. If you have never had any reduction gears then either will completely transform the car.

I plan to wheel it hard on the odd occasion but assisted with a rear locker so I'm finding it hard to determine which I want.

I have found the Calmini 5.14's to be bullet proof, even after running 38's for the past 2ish years. I liked the gearing when I was on 31's too.

Im on 31's and the 5.14s are great. I have no experience with the 4.9 to compare though.

i also run calmini 5.14's and 31" tyres - gearing is spot on... infact sometimes i'd like it to be a bit lower, but for daily driving and weekend warrior work its spot on.

I've had 4.9s...6.5s and now running 5.14s on 31s and i would definitely get the 5.14s
My diffs are 4.1 (maruti) but i still think that 5.14s are perfect for daily and a weekend warrior even though i'll be getting some 32s soon
