Post subject:  G16B help needed after rebuild on vitara

hi all.
long time no speak, some of you may know my vitara went for a swim a while back.
so now ive rebuilt the engine, its timed up correctly, it will start but not idle.
ive replace airflow sensor,
replaced idle control valve,
" throttle position sensor
" egr valve

running out of idea's now aye.... I have knocked to top off the blue airflow sensor thingy that goes yo egr but wouldnt think that would
be to much of a issue...

anyone got any ideas before I crack the shits with it???

Is the CEL on? Have you checked for any error codes? So the engine does run alright with the only issue being that it can't idle?

no trouble codes since I put the new MAF sensor in. it is missing abit with it tries to idle. the picks up and drops and stalls.
I haven't swapped the distributor as of yet as I do not have one spare, , lol and
it seems to be different to everyone elses EFI. and yes the contacts are warn abit. (it is next on my todo list)

it was working fine beforr she went under but so was meny other things, 30 under water doesn't go down to well.

im also still using the same ECU as it appears to be working fine and seems to
have kept the water out. all connections have no sign of water damage.

p.s. I wish there was codes present as it would help me out alot but such is life

the distributor on my EFI seems to have a internal coil not a 5th HT lead, is it normal for this as all other zooks ive seen have a external coil pack that supplies spark to the rotor, dizzy cap - HT leads - plugs etc...

(makes sense in my head, lol)

Whats your fuel pressure like? Hows it run above idle?

Water in your tank?

ya had alot of water in the tank, dropped that, cleaned it out, changed fuel filter the day it drowned., good fuel pressure,

seems to pick up well above idle, haven't tested for power yet as its out of rego. but sounds good. drove it accrose the
yard but cant really get much speed up. guess I can drive it up the street tomorrow and get back to you for sure.

That's quite normal, have you done a compression test to verify the valve timing? did you set up the ignition timing using a jumper in the diagnostic socket or a scan tool?

just times it up the same way I have done before, belt timing is definitely correct and firing timing should be pretty dam close - close enough that it should idle while I play with it. ill check this avo for power in driveing it and see if I can get my hands
on a fuel pressure tester today....

anyone got a link where I can get a dizzy cap and rotor arm for the style I have?

thank for the help, please keep the ideas coming...

didnt have much time to play with it this avo,
had a little think about it today and im
going to check the valve clearance as that hasnt been
checked yet, the fuel pressure is good.
wish me luck aye.lol
