Hi guys,
I have a knock that can be felt under the feet closer to the middle of the car whenever we go over ANY bumps big or little.
Here's what we've done so far to fix:
Replaced gearbox mount it was worn pretty badly
Re seated springs
Tested front shocks all ok
Removed sway bar and the knock was still there so no bingo
Bushes in front radius arms look all ok no cracking

There seems to be no play in the transfer case mounts and no visible damage any where else underneath. Engine mounts are solid too. Cab mounts look fine but can't take them off to inspect properly.

Anyone got any more ideas we can test?

Why was the gearbox mount worn, how old is your Jimny?

Sorry forgot to mention we have checked exhaust it's tight.
Jimmy is 06 model, I think the gearbox mount was just aged.
We r ordering new transfer mounts Monday, just in case. Also new front radius arm bushes as we have replaced the rear ones in the last 2 weeks.
All uni's and half shaft bolts are good also.

We r going to take it to pedders Monday to get a vibration test done see what they can find also

Yeah but is there something you've added that it may be hitting against. My old Jim, the exhaust would whack the tow bar on big bumps.

Do you have a breather tube on the top of the transfer case. Has the brass fitting come loose? When mine came off at one stage the fitting was bouncing around and hitting the tunnel under the hand brake. Just a gentle knocking. Just a thought. If fitted properly it will not come off.

my exhaust hits my transfer case but only on startup...

Ok so we've done some more testing.
Pedders suggested it was the tie rod end touching the panhard rod so we changed our drop pitman arm from the longer jimny bits one back to standard one which is shorter. They don't touch now but still the knocking continues.
Some more info on the knocking. You can't hear it but can feel it in the floor mainly on the drivers side footwell towards the gearbox.
We have also checked winch mounting points and just about everything near the exhaust and in the engine bay, transfer case, gearbox.
Things we will be checking tomorrow: taking front guards off to check for chassis cracking/replacing front radius arm bushes.
Can't believe how hard this is to find!

Just a thought but could it be something hitting the firewall under the dash?
Wouldn't think there's anything that could be making a decent knock under there though..

That's a good thought, I have had the central locking mech loose before in the doors but we don't have anything that I can think of loose IN the car under the dash that would be heavy enough to produce a solid knock but I will do some checking tomorrow. Thanks again

Play in the steering box? Mine has a similar knock when driving over bumps large or small.

might be stupid, but i also had a knock when i forgot to re tighten my passenger side chair bolts. they were finger tight and thats not tight enough...

So thank u all again for suggestions.

We did some more poking around and found drivers side shock not quite right. Compresses way too easily and near impossible to extend again by hand. Going to remove tomorrow and go for a careful drive to test it.
Will keep this updated for anyone who comes across knocks

So we got a new shock from the uk and fitted it and we no longer have a knock!
