AFAIK, the third wire is the voltage sense wire and should be connected to battery +. Anyone else?

the third will be a ground terminal which wont be needed . the three pins should be B,G and IL . the B is battery and will be a black with a white stripe , the IL will be a white with a red stripe , this is the Ignition Lamp , it feeds voltage to the battery light in your dash and goes out when the alternators diodes get excited and starts charging your battery . The G is of course Ground its not needed ....
