It seems speaking to some Victorian and NSW Suzuki wreckers that the Indonesian APV G16 engines are not as good as the Jap Baleno, with many issues due to casting, rods, gearboxes having issues that makes parts scarce for them.

Does anyone have any more info or reason why this is happening? is the APV completely made in Indonesia or other parts of Asia as well? Its a real shame as with every new model of an Engine you expect improvements but it seems not in this case.

its probably some thing to do with them being completely different motors. they are sloped of to one side to make them flatter to fit in an apv.

The long motor is the same though- the differences are confined to sump and manifolds.

No idea about the Indonesian g16's being any good or not, first I've heard of it.

Yep all G13bb (little brother of the G16b) and G16B are slanted in the last carry 1998-2004 and all the APVs

My g13bb carry is still going strong after 248,000kms no knocks, no power loss just powers on relentlessly
My g16b Carry is a monster, no leaks or cracks from 2000 baleno block and same thing.

The Indonesian APVs not much info on them just know that every place Ive rang they bag them.

is it perhaps more to how they are driven & serviced than build quality though?

Indonesian building cars in Indonesia could also be like Southern Italians building Alfa Romeos
Not a country reknown for building cars, the APV even has leaf sprung rear compared to carry 4 link
all drops of water in an ocean as Japanese guidelines are put into any country building their products
but Suzuki has had issues also with first g16a sohc 16v heads cracking and later blocks, this is maybe
due to China casting these units earlier on and not having the know how or experience.
Even Australian cast 8v sohc ca20 pintara heads is one of the crapiest things Ive ever seen but
they never suffered what these chinese suzuki cast g16a 16v heads did.

Carry vans have a good reputation while APVs yet after 10 years are falling short
