Post subject:  upgrading Jimny Cv or axel options??

Hi everyone i'm planning to run some 32" on my jimny and need to upgrade my front axle and CV's (it has a front locker)

1.Is it true that if you change the 26 spline Axle and CV' your diff pinion and king crown get shatter because they cant handle the extra pressure??

2.If i got the 22 spline Axel and CV from http://www.piranhaoffroad.com.au/produc ... zuki-jimny would that be able to handle the 32"??

3.Would it be a better option to just get a chrome molly 22 spline axle and just put the shrink ring over the normal CV?

4.Does anybody know anyone thats done any of these upgrades that i could talk to or could you send me the link of a thread which may help me?

1. no, no reason your diff will explode just because you have chromos

2. are you talking about the $2000 upgrade cvs? why would you do that, i dont see any poiint in buying 22 spline axles when 26 spline are available

3, no, birfield rings went out with the invention of chromo cvs

4. im sure wilso will be along soon, he runs chromos and bigg rubber on his jimny

Don't bother with 22splines... You will break them eventually. Wilso and I have broken them on 30's

^yeah sadly my first set I had made failed.

32 aye, good luck keeping it low, im running H/T 31" tyres with 40mm of lift 45mm bumpstop spacers and it still rubs allot even after ive (with a grinder and a welder) chopped large sections out of my guards. I fear to fit my new 31s ill have to run larger bump stop spacers. Or gain some height, but I am 3-linked too so that probably has allot to do with it.

As for axle upgrade, go 26spline, and you will need to twist some of the right peoples arms to find you a set of sierra chromoly CVs separate from the axles as TT and LROR don't separately sell the axles. Or buy a complete sierra chromo set and make new axles for it.

Also, not sure if internet legend or not, but the way jimny front diffs are cut when driving forward they are pulling into each other giving a sweet contact patch, when it reverse they try to push apart and would be significantly weaker. Ive had my diff apart enough to see the ring flex bolt has good scrub marks on it so its flexing 2-3mm to touch it.

So, if you have the cash and time for this, also purchase an RD208 airlocker and put it in the front too. For an ARB locker, plus axles and CVs, I wouldn't expect to see much change from 2.5K.

Or just weld up some rear sierra side gears and hope your power steering holds up lol

^do you know what it actually should be? I thought about a 1-2mm gap would be about right due to bearing/steel flex

Ill be getting a ARB airlocker in the front, what is a RD208 is that a sierra front locker or just the code for the jimny ??

well i have done a far bit of cutting of my guards have a 4" ORA lift, 2" body lift and if that doesn't do it ill add some spring spacers and ill be trimming my ARB front bar as well so hopefully that should do the trick. (yes i know sounds like a death wish)

probably sounds dumb but do you know anyone who makes or sell 26 spline side gears??

RD208 is the jimny rear locker that should fit the front. I have an RD207 with 26spline sidegears.

Isn't the front housing smaller?

Rd206 and rd207 are jimny front lockers. As far as I know Rd208 won't fit the smaller housing/third member.

Yeah it is a smaller center, but the internals are the same cause the 26spline kit fits.

So to run 26spline axles jimnys need RD207 lockers and then buy a 26spline kit.

If joe knows the actual sizes he can chime in anytime he likes :P
