Post subject:  96 Vitara estate clutch pedal PLEASE HELP!!

Hi all, I'm having troubles trying to sort out my clutch pedal on my 1.6 96 Vitara estate. for some reason the pedal is sitting up right at the bottom of the dash, for one reason or another its still functional but certainly not practical. I had a look at my brother one as he has one too, but his is a 92 estate and the clutch and brake pedal assembly/bracket is different of course.

I have got a spare one aswell but its from a SWB 92 vitara and once again its different. so i don't know if there's a spring missing a bracket or some sort of stopper for the pedal. i Went down to suzi auto showing them pictures and such but they couldn't work it out either unless i drove the car down there... which i cant as its not registered.

So what I'm asking is has anyone got an idea what is going on or better yet does anyone around brisbane have one of these 96 Estate Vitara's so i could have a look at your setup and maybe finally come to a conclusion.

Here are some pics.... not sure if they will help but its better than nothing i guess

By the way i purchased the car with it already like this

Does the pedal depress all the way to the floor?

Is the pedal hard to depress or easy?

Does the clutch disengage when the pedal is depressed?

Is the clutch cable adjusted all the way to either end of the adjustment?

pedal does go all the way to floor

pedal is about average (feels like normal clutch pedal)

clutch releases when pedal is pushed

clutch cable it adjusted but only on one end, i don't believe its adjustable on both ends

Sorry man, as I said I would have just called you if I realised. If moving the lever on the side of the box doesn't fix it take some more pics and or bring it down.

I've had it happen before on my old vitara, it was the bolt/shaft that the pedals rotate on had bent.

okay so I've pulled the pedal for all to see.
you will see in one picture a red oval around the part the was squashed then you will see a red line where it was squashed to which is marked in a red line

Pooke i think your on the right track, but by the looks of it that problem was fixed judging by the big welds you can see in the picture around the shaft.
pedal pivot fairly true, i think that my problem has something to so with the part I've marked in red as that was squashed and had evidence of it being bent/collapsing

if it was like that the way you bought it then someone done a shonky..
it's usually the bush that lets go making the pedal go all wonky and also poor adjustment of the cable that makes it sit too high..
reason it's been welded is a rare happening of the metal bush snapping off the weld probably caused by fitting a HD clutch (which is not even needed)
and welded it back n in the wrong spot.
just get yourself a sec.hnd pedal and you'll find it be ok.
