Doing a build putting a 1.3 head on a 1.6 block just wondering if anyone knows where to get good pistons from ? |

Off topic I assume you are going to use the 1.3 8 valve head. Why the 1.3 head? Some AZ sources state the 1.6 8v heads have bigger valves and flow better. Oh and which head gasket will you use? EDIT: removed a word, and added on topic stuff ON topic LROR seems like pretty good prices Could try local suzuki suppliers (suziworld, suzisport etc etc) What exactly are you after? |

I've had a 1.3l and 1.6l 8v head off side by side and the valves were the same size. IIRC the ports and chambers looked the same too, I didn't cc them or anything though. Both engines looked like they had never been apart before. Anyone able to look up the part numbers for the valves to see if they are indeed the same, or different? Zuk_89, there's 3 kinds of 1.3l head. 8v, SOHC 16v and DOHC 16v. If you can tell us what head you're planning to use and what you call "good pistons" (ie, high quality, simply will fit or high compression) then we'll be able to help. The 8v head bolts on with no need to change the pistons. I expect (no promises, someone will be able to confirm) that G16b pistons will work with a G13bb head. The GTi head, I'm not sure what works with that. |

That's more or less what I would have expected from suzuki, especially considering they state the cyl head volumes are the same. sideways wrote: The 8v head bolts on with no need to change the pistons. The 1.3 ports are smaller than the 1.6 ports. I'm pretty sure the 1.6 valves are bigger as well, its not by much though. You could lose a fair bit of power and torque using the 1.3 head, what manifolds are you planning on using? When I did my first 1.6 conversion I opened up a 1.3 gasket to the same size as the 1.6 ports and then flowed the 1.3 manifold to suit, the pic below is a before and after:

Interesting, I ran a caliper over the ports and they measured the same at face. What 1.3l was yours Rhinoman? The one I played with was a G13b. |

It was a worn out one. I don't recall which engine, it was out of my 1986 KJA and I'm pretty sure that it was a 1328. Edit: I'm fairly certain it was a G13A |

I was sure 1.3 and 1.6 8v heads were identical I do know that a heap of later 8v 1.6 actually had 16v pistons |

My 8V is a 2000 model and is a G16A with the correct pistons, the valve cutouts for the 16V are very different. |

Way off topic Figures based on engine calcs i've done, using a lot of information i've collected. A g16b or g16a with 16v pistons with an 8v head and g13 head gasket will lower compression to 8.42:1 Changing a g13 from 8v to 16v will increase the volume, causing a loss in CR Using gti pistons will add 3.43cm^3 of unswept volume to each cylinder on a g13ba engine, and 2.71 cm^3 on a g13a engine. And 16v pistons on a g16 will add 2.91cm^3 The effects on CR g13a new CR = 8.41 g13ba new CR = 8.28 g16a new CR = 8.46 |

I was talking about 16v valve pistons. If you keep it 8v pistons it should be ok. I will double check the headgaskets and let you know which is the correct one to use. 8v head on 8v 1.6, the incorrect head gasket will reduce compression |

The 16v pistons will make no noticeable difference in power. Both suzuki shops in perth use 16v pistons for all there 1.3 and 1.6 8v rebuilds incase the owners want to slap efi head/manifolds on down the track |
