Post subject:  dual battery placement and battery size questions

Hey
I have a dual battery kit and want to install it in the rear of my zook next to my draws (drivers side). The space is 160mm X 400 mm
And 200 mm deep.
I want to know if there are good size stow away batteries for this size?

Also any tips on putting batteries in the rear.

What's the reason for wanting it in the rear? Judging from your avatar you have a tintop? Much easier and practical to put it passenger side in the engine bay.

I like the idea of it in the back.
I have a space where it will fit nicely.
Plus it will mainly be running fridge and camp lights.
So most of the wiring doesn't have to run through grommets in the firewall.

Also future plans on the engine and winches etc.

Put it in the front where you can use it for backup starting IMHO.

How do you plan on charging it if you don't run wires through the firewall???

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm just trying to open your eyes. I have a battery in the rear of my jimny as there isn't room in the engine bay... It sucks!!!! Using a battery in the back for a winch is a very backwards way of doing it also.

Obviously the charge wire will run though the fire wall.

Plus the space in the back is a pain and it's nice to fill it up.

Putting it all in today.

Can anyone school me on batteries or has a link to a thread?

Optima yellow tops are a good alrounder and come in all shapes and sizes. They can handle high current, but also have similar properties to a deep cycle battery so can be deeply discharged regularly such as running a camping fridge etc overnight. If you aren't planning on ever winching or starting the motor off it then you might as well get a cheapo deep cycle battery.
