Post subject:  1988 Suzuki Sierra 1.3 cold start/carb problems

Hey guys I bought a sierra way back last june I've been trying to get on the road but it's had this annoying problem ever since I've bought it!! Whenever it's cold (first start of the day) the car won't idle it dies seconds later unless I hold my foot down on the accelerator, I hold the revs in at around 1500-2000rpm until it warms up to prevent it stalling, once it's warm I can take my foot off and it will idle fine (around 1000-1200rpm). I notice as it's warming up the revs start to decrease (but I'm not backing off the throttle..), so it seems the revs are changing for some reason as it warms up, perhaps the issue lies there somewhere..

I've been told it's a carb issue so I bought a kit gave the carb a rebuild and its even worse now (won't run without spluttering/surging). The rebuild didn't fix the problem either it still won't idle without stalling out until warm. It's even worse now maybe I need to adjust the float? I only replaced the jets/washers and cleaned it out with carby cleaner, didn't do any adjustments or anything (besides the choke/wax pellet). I used the old float (but replaced the float valve/needle underneath) should've I adjusted the float would that be the problem? I'm still left with my cold start problem which I can't figure out, the choke is fine I think it has something to do with the rpm dropping as it warms up I've been over the whole car and still can't figure it out. Could the cold start issue be something else besides the carb?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
cheers

The float adjustment is the single most important thing in the carby. I reckon get that correct before further diagnosis.
