im thinking of putting hilux diffs in my 92 sierra but dont no where 2 start. what do you change? how hard is it? is it worth it?

why do you want hi lux diffs?
idealy spend the money ($800) and get strong front c.vs and axles. you will be able to drive however you like on almost any tyre. (so im told)

with lux diffs you do lose alot of pumpkin clearance. but gain factory strength.
how are you with fabing?
reading your other post you shold just buy a lux and be done with it

If you want to run a 33 to 38 tyre yeah go for it.

If you can't do all the custom work yourself it will cost you heaps.

Worth it? yeah i reckon it is if you want to do some serious 4wding, do all the work yourself and don't mind it being illegal.



I just went outside and measured sierra and hilux diffs pumpkin clearance...

roughly, there is 10mm diference between Hilux diffs and Sierra diffs, so very minimal loss. The difference is, you'll be running 33 - 38s on hilux diffs, so you can forget that 10mm.

and i wouldn't put anything bigger than 32s on a short wheel base either

what size tyers were on the lux and what size were on the sierra when u measured ?

i measured from the center of the diff housing to the bottom of the pumpkin.

I did this conversion to my zook about 10 months ago. Was alot more than i anticipated!! Diff clearance.. i lost around 8mm for memory. So somewhere between 8 & 10mm clearance loss. I was running 32" mungrals with a front locler b4.. and kept breaking things (cv's etc). Now, i do have an illegal bus yes (heaps wider and taller).. but these things happen!! I'll probably get done one day, but untill then its all happy!! At the end of it, i love them, but there was alot of work involved.. and a few $$ too for the high steer kit, new perchs, shocky mounts etc. Theres some pics in my build up thread thingy
