i have just put a recond G16b in my sierra using my old sierra intake and carb. it has just clocked 1000 k's on the new motor and today the throtle cable was a bit sticky so i sprayed carby cleaner in, on, and around the carby itself and the linkages. when i started it, it obviously ran rough and blew black but once warned up it appeared to be blowing blue smoke after a small rev on compression?? i hope and doubt it is not the rings as they are supposedly all new, along with recond head and new pistons etc etc.. i know it is hard to tell without looking but any suggestions??

the only thing i could think of is when bolting the carby back on initially i forgot to get new gaskets. so i made them out of cardboard and marinated them in engine oil so they would seal. after bolting the carby on it oozed a bit of oil out around the base of the carby, which i cleaned.
maybe when i sprayed the inside of the carb with carby cleaner it has despursed a similar amount of oil into the intake.???

but the thing is it is not a constant blow?? it is only under the right throttle or compression??

im sorry it is such a long post but as im sure your aware after spending so much money on the engine you get a litttle anxious when it blows smoke after the first 1000??

what are you meaning by compression?

how did you bed the engine in? have you changed the oil again after 1000?

sorry i mean after lettign the throttle off and the engine is whining down. when i ran the engine in i didnt rev it over 4000 at all. actually i thin ki had it a 4000 once on the freeway for liek 10 seconds. and the rest of it was just normal driving aroound but fluctuating the load on it.. i havent changed the oil only because the people whom i bought the engine off said not to worry about changing it until 5000??

change the oil and filter. did the person who told you to leave it for 5000 also
build the motor?

yeah it is from suzistore in midland wa they have a good reputation and its got a 20,000 km 12 month waranty

it will do that if teh valve guides or seals are no good, or more likely you have some blowby getting in the intake

if it doesnt do it driving and up to temp dont worry about it for now

what is blowby? and i have had a chance to check it doing it up to temp? i also saw in the revision mirror off the lights when i took off in first it did it a bit aswelll. so for all i know it is doing it under load aswell??

rings not sealing fills the sump with gas which goes into the intake

if you can see it blowing smoke, dont worry about the internet jsut take it back and show em

i just rebuilt my g16 b and it was doing it the same and i assumed it was the rings not bedding enough to i let the motor load up a little and then drove it and let it load up a little for a few km/s and it helped alot no more smoke so my guess is the rings aren't bedded properly, perhaps revved it a little hard before running it in, should change the oil and filter after 500 km/s of rebuild then again after a 1000 that's my opinion and view anyway, also did they give you just any oil or specific oil to run it in with ?

nah i didnt rev it hard at all during the run in process and even now i havent revved it out. and the only reason i didnt change the oil at 1000 is because they said not to worry about it. and i wasnt told any specific oil just nothing synthetic but saying that they put oil in it anyway.. so what is in it now is from there workshop.. as royce said i might just take it to them and show them?? but should i just drive it really lightly until then to help maybe bed it in more or is that not the problem??

well like Royce said go to them anyway, i am sure they will telly out what they think is up, when running in mine i was told to put it in top gear on the highway and slow down to 70 and rise to 90 or so as long as i wasn't going over 3 grand and i wasn't sticking to any certain amount of revs, nd that was for 500km/s then it was doing the smoking you talk of so i changed oil and filters which help and then i revved it to 3 grand a bit more often just over sometimes and and purposely loaded it up a bit and now at 1400 its going strong. so take it in there nd see that they say but i think either the rings arent bedded or the oil filter and oil has to be changed, as i said earlier tho this is all my opinion and everyone has different opinions.
