G'day guys just wanting some information on a 5 door 91 swift I may get for $250 , I've got a sj70 wt just want to know what I can use,what I can't, is it a waste of time .unsure of kms, or state of motor yet , won't see it until next weekend on days off,. Thanks in advance |

From my limited experience, I can say this: Assuming the Swift has the 1-liter 3-cylinder engine like our US Geo Metro equivalents do, you can mate it directly up to the 5-speed gearbox found in the SJ-413 variants. The 3-cylinder 1.0 l Metro engine is a member of the "G" series of engines that share the same bellhousing bolt pattern with the G13 but not the G16. That said, add a 5-speed Sierra gearbox to your swift engine and you have a fresh bit of drivetrain for your LJ! Don't forget the wiring harness, ECU and possibly the VSS device on the back of the speedometer in the binnacle. |

^WTF? You assume too much. There were no three cylinder 5 door swifts sold in Australia. I'm not 100% if in 91 the car will be throttle body TBI or still carb. I suspect it will be throttle body fuel injection, but it's a bit of a PITA to get the TBI to work in a sierra due to clearance/manifold/water neck issues, and will require a EFI fuel system. Even if its carb, the carb and manifolds are unsuited to a Sierra. If you want to run the swift block and head with the Sierra manifold to retain the sierra carby, I think you will need to run the sierra head*, as the swift head/cam doesn't have a fuel pump drive * or run an external electric fuel pump. Swifts also run polyvee belts from memory so you'll need to consider that if you want to swap accessories etc, especially with regard to the crank pulley if you do a block swap. IMHO all up, too much of a hassle unless it's a pristine motor. The rest of the car is worthless. Obviously gearbox/brakes/fuel tank etc are all of no use to you, so it's really a long motor if you are keen, or a short motor if you don't want hassles. I see your car is a 1995. I wouldn't expect a swift motor that's 4 years older to be in any better condition than your existing motor. Steve. |

With the tbi I was under the impression you could just unbolt the tbi "carby" and bolt it on after removin the sierra carburettor onto the sierra carby manifold. Is this not the case? |

Not as far as I am aware. The bolt pattern is apparently different. There's also a heap of other little problems that need to be overcome. The distributor is different and won't talk to the ECM, as one example. It's far from a bolt on conversion. Steve. |

The only tbi swift was the sedan .5 door is a hatchback so it would be carburetted. Being a 91 it will be a g13ba 1324cc so the engine will be usable in a sierra if you change the camshaft , sump and oil pickup , water pump and crank and cam sprockets as they will be round tooth and use a 5 bolt crank sprocket. |

Also although they used a electric in tank fuel pump, they used a blanking plate on the head. Used heaps of swift engines for sierras. |
