I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1.6 (big block) for my Zook. :D
It's a 16V bottom end that I'll put a 1.3 head and (1.6)TBI on.
Question is: How do I tell if it's a 92-95 or a 96-98 model engine?
Jas.

did it have steel bracing rails on the bearing caps? oh, and does the sump have a hole for what looks like a crank angle sensor in the front?

if it has rails its an early job.
if it hs no rails and a port on the front of the sump she is a late model job.
and i hope it 1.6 8 valve injection you are using.

No stud girdle and it has a hole in the front of the gasket face on the sump.... So a late model??
Yes TBI is 1.6 off an import Vitara from NZ.
Thanks Joe.

changing pistons, make sure you note floating pin or not. makes a difference with the 8v pistons
