^ Any reason(s) why this can't work for a sierra?

The idea is to use the Baleno speedo internal (and face?) into the sierra cluster with the Jimny VSS pickup and cog and then the Jaycar speedo corrector to get it reading right.

One problem I can see is the Jimny VSS is 3 pin whereas Baleno is 2 pin.

(Thanks Teracis)

Question for JrZook.

How complex would it be to modify the Baleno odometer to suit larger tyres?

As said the jaycar corrector will correct both the speed and odometer for larger tires. The only other way would be to determine the difference in tone wheel teeth and wheel speed between the vehicles and make up another wheel to suit

Cool, I was thinking the Baleno odometer would be calibrated for stock tyres. So as long as the speedo reads correct (adjusting via Jaycar unit + GPS) then the odometer should also read correct?

Is the unit fully digital ie doesn't use a mechanical cable at all?

Yep full digital. Can get pics if need be.

EDIT: Baleno VSS uses a gear to pickup the signal from the gearbox, Might change things?

Does the ecu care what the speed sensor signal is? Or does it just need a speed signal?

On my old 4age I made a circuit that just pulsed the speed signal input when ignition was on at about 10hz I think, got rid of the speed signal error code from the ecu.

Based on info around the forum, The computer only cares to know whether the car is moving or not, Easily sorted by fitting a Vitara or Swift speedo with VSS from factory (still cable driven) or a reed switch installed into the stock speedo (which I have done).

That option doesn't allow correction for bigger tyres without buying those cable driven correctors (not cheap, not easily adjustable)
Hence this thread.

Cool. Doesn't matter where the signal comes from provided you match the frequency of the tone wheel to the actual road speed (number of pulses/km)

This is where I get confused. :?

Baleno VSS has 16 pulses for one revolution, Baleno cluster face says 637REV=1KM. So 10192 pulses per km.

~30in tyre with circumference of ~2392.68 (obviously actual tyre would be less than this) does ~417.94 revolutions per km

417.94 x 3.9 diff gear = 1629.966 revolutions (of drive shaft) per km

10192/1629.966 = 6.25, So I need a tone wheel with 6 teeth (near enough?)

Do I just suck at math and have just over complicated the whole thing?

Or will any tone wheel work (ORA jimny for example) and the Jaycar kit sorts out the rest?

Maths seems ok. Looks like the easiest way to do it would be to use a jimny tone wheel and use a speedo corrector with it, provided it can give you the amount of adjustment you require. If its too far out I guess you could grind down every second tooth or something on the tone wheel.

Any reason a Crank postion sensor or even an ABS sensor off another vehicle/suzuki wouldn't work?

Seems like the baleno sensor is 2-wire and therefore is most likely a VR sensor. So if you match the senosr type anything can be used.
