I recently bought a Jimny without looking at it. My father in-law checked it out for me and drove it from Shortland in Newcastle to Tamworth for me.
It has an oil leak from the rear of the rocker cover and blows a little blue smoke on start up. Other than that it was running quite well, until today.
On my way back from Narrabri it blew the sparkplug out of the 2nd cylinder and smashed the coil pack. It was still running on 3 cylinders so I drove it to the wreckers in Gunnedah to see if they could help. The only Zook they had was a V6 Vitara and we couldn't get a new sparkplug to take anyway. It seems the thread was totally destroyed.
So I climbed back in and drove it back to Tamworth on 3 cylinders sounding like a really sick chaff cutter.
I just spoke to a mechanic friend who thinks I may need a new head, but I'm pretty sure it has had a new engine at some stage and am unsure how to identify it. I'll try to get some pics of the engine up shortly for you guys to look at. The rocker cover is alloy with no writing anywhere. The timing belt cover has 16Valve inscribed on the front of it. It has 1 coil pack for 2 cylinders.
This is my first Suzuki and I love it, but it seems I have some work to do.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Josh

Doesn't sound like fun mate, our Jimny has just done a head too. What year jimny do you have? We've just been researching some fixes for ours (which is a 2003 m13a) and it's cheaper to buy a whole new engine than to fix our existing one! If your jimny is post-2000 (an m-series engine) a cheap and apparently easy fix is to swap in an m15a engine from a Holden Cruze (Swifts also had these engines but they are VVT, not non-VVT, so it depends what year your jim is). Haven't done the switch yet, engine is on its way :-)

Thanks Zook2510. It's a '99 model. Supposed to be a g13b or something like that.

As I'm new to the forum, I'm not sure if these pics will upload successfully. Let me know if you recognise the car or just the engine type.

Welcome to everyone on page 22 of this thread,

Grunt, if you need to post pics, first, get a photobucket account (free)
http://www.photobucket.com
Upload your pics there then copy and paste the "Direct" link next to the photo you want to share
Image

in between the {img}{/img} tags in the advanced post editor.

^^^^ i know you're only reposting that...

you can copy the [IMG] link from photobucket & paste it in here without having to add the [IMG] tag manually, saves a few clicky clicks on the old mousey mouse.

mushroom MUSHROOM.

if you do click the IMG tag it also inserts a link to your photobucket account, so make sure you don't upload anything you don't want to see. or delete the html tag bit after you paste...

That seems to work. When I clicked on the link I could see all my pics on there, which is only a few Jimny pics anyway.
Thanks for your help, guys.

Thanks Jezza86.
I just got off the phone to my father who has a low mileage wrecked '03 Ignis with a M13a engine. I read somewhere on here that they aren't interchangeable with the G motors, but would it be possible to just swap the heads?

So Re- Torque in Tamworth say they can put a helicoil in to make the sparkplug fit again for around $70. If it works I just need a coil pack and a new set of sparkplugs and I'm away. Would the coil pack from a M13A fit, or will I need a specific one for my engine?

You will need one from the G13BB or G16B coilpack motors. The M motors are different.
There are only two coilpacks on the G13BB/G16B motor as they each fire two cylinders at the same time for a given electronic pulse from the ECU. (IE They also spark the top of the exhaust stroke, called "wasted spark")

It turns out the coil pack from the M13A looks exactly the same as mine and works fine. Perhaps I don't have a g13bb in my car after all.

You have a G series motor, most probably a G13BB.
The G13BB, Baleno G16B, and M13A share the same style coil pack. Whether there is a resistance difference who knows.
