Just wondering where you temp gauge needle sits in the gauge ..... also what is the right temp thermostat to be running in a standard sierra? Im suspicious that my engine is running too cold .my temp gauge sits on about 1/4 .

Sounds like you have the wrong thermostat , I only say this as mine was broken and at the time the closest I could get was 84 I think? And it did exactly as you say. I have no idea of this is bad for the engine or just a little less efficient. But for me was better than over heating all the time. Obviously I have since fixed it.
problem might be your gauge..just cause it reads quarter ..dont mean its that cold..i would try a 2nd temp gauge and see what temp it really is..just a cheap one from a auto spares shop should do it,,,,BUT as someone else has said .. least its not running hot

Yeah as stated it running on 1/4 ... this is around town on the highway and when 4wding .im trying to fix a pcv problem (white grey foam ) .ive cleaned out pcv but also found a split in the main hose that runs from rocker cover to the air filter but there is still a small amount of foam being produced so tomorrow im fitting a new pcv and a new hose but I might as well put in a new thermostat while im there .ie engine running cool so not heating up properly therefore producing or colecting condensation.
