Just finished getting my cage complianced and now moving on to the next thing . I want to run harnesses both sides of the car and the guy that complianced the cage said he would do the harnesses aswell later on.

If they are mounted to CAMS specs, is that suitable for onroad use aswell? Also what is the general consensus on harnesses, 4, 5 or 6 point?
Is it better to mount the harness to the cage or to the floor behind the cage, and using the harness bar simply to correct the angle of the shoulder straps? Will be running seats with provisions for harnesses with them.

Where is the best place to buy them? Just places like Autobarn?

Never ever mount the shoulder straps to the floor. There is a maximum height difference between the mounting and your shoulder that needs to be followed.

I can't remember what this height is but CAMS would be a good place to start.

6 point is safer then 5 however they take longer to put on and some
times people don't bother sticking them on because off the hassle.
also the seat is very important however the safest seats are no good on the road. if you are going to the extream of a harness then you may as well
wear a helmet and use a neck restraint, elbow ties and don't forget the window net. not making fun it is just that all those things work together.

for a DD i recon a lap sash is still the go because it is simple to put on
therefore there is more off a chance that it will be used.

ok so the shoulder mounts go directly into the harness bar of the cage.

I have all of the cams specs here so i will just go by them, it didnt specify about the shoulder straps though

RPM make race suits, clothing, fire proofs, neck braces, harnesses and well
any thing to do with motor sport safety.

they will be in the phone book under ether revolution race gear or RPM
don't buy safety gear off autobarn or the like buy it off the people who know and use there products.

I think the harness should mount to the same plane as the seats, but youve got a catch 22 in that you have to either mount the harnesses to the cage or at least run them over it to get the correct shoulder angle. this would only be a drama in a smash that bad that it bends the car up and loosens or tightens the harness, pretty extreme but thats when you want em to work anyway

youll find 5 or 6 point wont be DOT approved belts as they dont like the fiddlyness of plugging all the bits in so 3" 4 point may be best you can hope for

yeah have been leaning towards the 4 point just for daily usage.

Next question, Fixed bucket or recline seat?

whatever works for you, I have fixed in the mini but recliner in the vit, couldnt live with a fixed one in it I dont think

just dont buy cheap seat, they fall apart, arent safe and make you sore

Hi there Zook Fan and any one else who is intrested. I race a Grand Vitara in the Australian Offroad racing Championship and have a old set of RCI 5 point harnessess , there only 2 years old but can't use them any more as they are out of date. If any one wants them they can have them both for $50 (just enough to buy me a cartoon of carona !)

They must be mounted to the roll cage. You will need a horiziotal bar in the main hoop , then all you have to do is lash them around the bar or weld in some tags and mount eye bolts . It's easier just to lash around bar.

You can get the info via the CAMS online technical manual , as to where to have the bar in relation to the shoulder holes in the seat.

Another good place to buy race gear is Extreme Motorsport at Virginia. Colin Hunter (who races a Jeep Grand Cheroke) owns the store and they are pretty good on price.

No they cant and the harness bar on the cage is set up at pretty much 0 degrees with my shoulder, my question was whether to attach the harness to the bar or simply run it over the bar and into the floor. The angle would have been fine either way. I will mount it straight into the cage.

No you have to have a minimum of 5 points for CAMS. I wouldnt mind running a 4 point all the time and if i take it to comps swap all the belts around.

I was thinkin about settin up a 4 point harness in my zook, i remembered seei in a pic 1 of the fellas on this forum haven it on their zook looked neat.

I think they had the two shoulder strap bit mounted to the rollcage behind them n not sure about side 1's tho.
