Anyone ordered Jimny Parts from China? I found this metal front bumper while I was wasting time on the net. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/JIMNY-Fr ... 51197.html Postage is really expensive, but my work ships product from China, and usually with a bit of spare room in the containers, so I started talking to a Chinese girl in our office who organizes the shipments and she put me onto this website. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z ... mporaryc2c I think the bumper comes in Aluminium or Steel. Not sure which one would be best, but I guess steel being the stronger one? Long story short, I'm hoping i might be able to score one of these bumpers for around $400. they used to make this stuff for MIC offroad. a few guys have both, with the bloke with the alloy bumper saying he has nudged a few trees with his and it hasnt dinted it which is a good sign i have the rear bar, and found the steel a bit flimsy and the black finish coveres up any dodgey welds. other then that i think they are pretty reliable |

All these products were marketed in Australia by a company called MIC Offroad for a while. Looks like you have found the source. I think they either manufacture for, or copy some of the APIO products as well. I see they have pricing in both RMB and Yen so they must also target the Japanese market. As long as you have a way of communicating with them they should be fine. I have the tow bar and apart from the welds being a bit rough it is strong and entirely acceptable. At least a few on this site have the sliders as well and I recall good reports about them too but I am hesitant about fitting them to the body mount bolts. I would welcome any opinions about that thought because others have said they are fine. |

Thanks guys. That's certainly some interesting feedback. I'm swayed towards the lighter weight Aluminium bumper now. I think I read somewhere today that the Aluminium version is 4mm thick and the Steel one is 3mm thick. Also, I think the winch mount/bash plate section is thicker steel on both versions, hopefully it's nice and strong because the main reason I want this bar is for the hitch receiver and the lugs on it to use for recovery (not that I do any hard wheeling) but at least the option will be there. Same with the sliders, I may not need them too much, but if I can pick them up really cheap, might as well. My boss said I could ask one of my workmates to bring the bumper back as part of their luggage on their next visit or I could if I go soon. That could be interesting. I really like the roof tray they have aswell. It's Aluminium and replaces the factory roof rails too so it seem like it'd be pretty sturdy too. I certainly can't afford a front bumper, sliders and a roof tray at the moment though. Maybe I should pull my finger out and visit the tax return man. |

i can measure mine up thisarvey and potatograph them to give you an idea. theres a good how to on how to use the bodymounts to mout the sliders on here too |

Ha, stupid me! Couldn't see it on www.xe.com, assumed ¥ must have meant JPY and they were pitching the products to the Japanese. Similar prices for the same gear listed on Alibaba also, I assume they are the same mob. If there was a cheap way of getting the rear swing away bar shipped, I would jump on it but I cant justify $1200 for something that just is quite good enough given the lights are too inboard, nowhere to attach trailer chains and no number plate holder. Someone mentioned in another thread that a decent fabricator could do one fully customised for under $1000 but I fail to see how that is possible after taking into account cost of steel, axle/bearing unit for the swing away arm, powder coating etc. |

Buying sliders that rely on mounting to the body mounts is a waste of time and money................  for portalsyeah the mounting idea doesn't sit that well with me either, their barwork looks nice. but as others have said the welds & powdercoat are a bit 2nd rate & the MIC barwork i've seen the powdercoat went quite chalky pretty quick. |

I finally got my oda bodymount steps sliders on last night,ending a saga to trial fitment and cutting and rewelding. I like the way they look. They and their origional design are fucking useless but. If anyone was ever worried about bodyblocks wrong way round causing cracking of body or chassis, bodymounted sliders put them to shame. The pipe has much less contact surface area and handles the same forces. It twists the mounts sideways which they were never designed for. The whole thing has costed me weeks of stuffing round, and an extra $ 200 geting things fixed. I wouldnot be anywhere near as pissed off at oda if when I called him he didnt get angery. All I want him to know is how to fix his design and stop selling something thats gunna piss people off. The oda sliders had ●the wrong size tube to slide over the actual bodymount bump on the chassis mount which meant I had to grind put the ID of the pipe to fit the car ●tube was welded 10mm long and 10mm short on the sliders so had to get the tubes moved afterwards ●origional tubes were too long, were made for a standard car evev though he said it was ok to have it made custom to suit the bodylift. ● the treadplate rattles. All the time. But hay... 1300 bucks plus 450 shipping later I have some good looking but shittily mounted steps on my car. |

Motivates me to buy a mig welder and make it exactly the way I want it. Sounds like most of the products out there are very average. The way I see it, if you make it yourself it wont be quite as good as the premium product on the market but at least if it is even 70% of the way there you will still be bloody pleased cause it cost you shit all and you learnt a heap on the way. |

Precisely. And by the way, while a mig is nice, you can also go the (cheaper) way of stick. All you need is - a good angle grinder with a variety of discs (cutting, grinding, wire brush etc) - a pipe bender (mandrel is best, cheaper options work but you need some mods and pack with sand) - pipe notcher (not strictly necessary, depends on your design) - welder - steel, and heaps of time I had a look at the oda sliders for the GV a while ago, they did seem well made, sturdy, chassis mounted, but I was not ready to part with money that would be enough to buy all the tools and the materials twice or more, for a similar result. Added bonus of learning heaps along the (chaotic) way. Am about to redo mine since the original project was stolen unfinished. |

I've got the pipe bender and grinder. Looked at a second hand Mig this arvo but it was dodgy as hell, I'll probably get a new lincoln 180c, will last me 20 years and easy to learn on. Considering the pipe notcher but not 100% sold on it yet. |
