I just got a Jimny last week it's a 2000 model has 4" lift from jimny bits and 31's but it needs new transfer gears to make it drivable on the road with out slipping the clutch to take of and I don't want it reving it's ass off at 100kmh I have a Sierra transfer here and I'm going to buy a kit from ORA to install it. But what do people recomend for the ratio? I did a search but couldn't find much. |

I'm looking at 4.16 or 4.9 not sure which one yet |

I'd say 4.9 may work best for 31s |

I don't want it to rev to hard on the hwy what revs do you think I would be pulling doing 100kmh? |

As per facebook. 4.16s puts it pretty much dead on stock revs on the highway. 4.9s about 150rpm more at 110. |

4.16 would bring a Jimny with 235s (28") back close to a stock Jimny rpm, hence my suggestion that 4.9 would probably be better. |

Do the calculations before you order. There's a ratios thread in good tech which is what I'm basing this suggestion on. |

^ I ran it through a gear calculator. I'd go the 4.9s coz you'l need a bit of help to turn the tyres and the low range is a decent bit lower. 6.4s are damn near the same high range as 4.9s but obviously quite a bit lower low range. 235/75r15s are 29". |

Also, don't use the "13% Hi/84% Lo" type reduction quotes the sellers give in your calculations as these are the variation from Sierra (or Sammy) stock gears. Use the actual gear ratios for GB, T/Case and diffs in the Jimny. (and note that for different year/engine models of Jimny there are different stock ratios in GB, T/Case and Diffs!) You'll find that the Ideal T/case ratio to run 31s in a Jimny will be higher than the best gear reduction for a Sierra. |

303zuke wrote: You'll find that the Ideal T/case ratio to run 31s in a Jimny will be higher than the best gear reduction for a Sierra. Because a WT Sierra case is already a reduction compared to Jimny case. Just wanted to add that in to help explain why. |

For what icalculate before when i was looking into. The 4.16 was almost perfect for 30" tyres while being a tad bit overgeared I checked in that time an old tread from an old member that did the swap and it had an old model jmny (as most ppl doing the swap are vvts and they have slight diferent ratios). And him with 235s and just the wt transfer was almost stock, bit underpower. Close like having 215s. If i rememberright he said he was doing 4000rpms at 100km/h |

Can you mix ant match gear sets like 4.9 hi range gears and 5.14 low range gears and if you can will lror sell them like this? |

6.4's would be the closest compromise to having the high range of 4.9 and the low range of 5.4 as sideways has already said. As for mixing and matching I have heard of something similar but I think it would come under the catagory of, If you haven't got all the bits already and ability to work out how an what you need it's probably to hard to do. |

No. The gear sets all use specific gears to get the ratios, and because the intermediate gear has bot low and high on the same unit, you can't swap 1/2 and 1/2 Steve. |
