Got an issue with one of the GV's. The malfunction indicator light comes on not long after filling the car up. The light indicates there is an issue with emissions system but I'm not really sure where to start with it. It's my girlfriend's car, she has taken it to two mechanics which swore it was the dint in the exhaust which was fixed and of course that did nothing to fix the problem. They cleared the computer codes and the light went off, she put fuel in it 80k later and the light came back on. Now they want to replace the manifold and the cat converter.

My guess was the MAF or O2's so I took the MAF off and gave it a clean. It was fairly dirty but it came up good with the cleaning spray. I couldn't get the O2's off to look as I only had a few minutes before she left for work again. I pulled the battery lead off to reset the computer. It ran fine for 400k, she put fuel in it and the light came back on.

Any ideas? I find it weird that filling the car seems to be the trigger.

Nah there are evap emission codes, replace the fuel cap before chucking any new parts on it

Actually, get the code read properly, write it down and understand what it means before bothering to do another thing.

can you swap the fuel caps between the GVs?

The car is not with me during the week, I'll see if I can get someone to give me the code this weekend.

Yeah should be able to swap caps, I just don't want to be stuck with no cruise control while the light is on for the 5 hour trip back to work :lol:

I had a similar issue, intermittent light. A battery reset would clear it and then seemingly, after a refuel. The light returned.

I first cleaned the two 02 sensors, the throttle body and the plugs.

Light remained.

I tightened the exhaust, cleaned air filter and entertained the idea of replacing fuel filter untill I found out where it was.

Light remained.

Replaced both 02 sensors, issue fixed.

Issue didn't scan as an O2 sensor malfunction.

Missed your post, which sensors did you replace? There is more than 2 I believe? Do you have the 2.7L?

So far on this car they have replaced both catalytic convertors, destroyed the rear exhaust, fixed it again after I shouted, and replaced one of the O2 sensors. They will not conceed the fuel cap could be the issue and I'm not allowed to try (not my car). I haven't been present for any of the scans as I work out of town. Each and every time the light has come back on.

The light came on again this weekend after the replacement of the 02 sensor, approximately 70km's after a refill. The shop is now saying that the cat convertors are the issue again because they aren't genuine, genuine cat convertors are $3080 each from Japan. I really don't believe aftermarket cat convertors are the issue, the light came on before them anyway and it was found that the stock ones were melted.

Anyone out there with a 2.7L GV with an aftermarket exhaust?

The 2.7 has 4 02 sensors, 2 pre cat and 2 after cat. If the cat was faulty it has its own fault code that the second 02 sensors would pick up and actually say if it was the left or right precat.

If only happening after refueling, its prob something to do with the Evap canister, or system pressure, or thinking way out of the box being aftermarket exhaust has it got the metal air feed line connected to the drivers side manifold (EGR VALVE PIPE)?

Normally it would tell if there is something wrong with the 02, evap canister, purge valve, with its own code.

These are the fault coded to do with emisions.

There is also two ways of viewing faults. Current and stored. Stored are for intermittant faults which can help finding something that may be sticking or faulty connections etc etc.

Using a standard OBD2 scanner can be useless if only shows emission error, while the 2.7L will usually give the fauly code to what ever is the issue, eg to rich, OB2 sensor slow to respond, its pretty thourough.

Cheapist option is a launch x431 idiag + Suzuki software about 170 all up

Should check faults but won't program remotes keys etc. Not even the sdt Suzuki tool I have could. There are ways of programing them by ingnition on off combination

Having all soughts of drama with mine, will tow it 130km tomorrow to closest dealer, even they don't sound very confident.
