| Post subject: | Front Locker won't disengage... sigh |
Just got my diff back from a mechanic because it wouldn't disengage. He said all it was, was a bit of shit in the diff that was causing it to jam on. Un-related, the diff had been set up with no backlash and was shagged, so we switched the locker into another 3.7 diff I have. Brought it home and spent the better part of today installing it, and it still wont disengage... Did a search and had a read, Joeblow mentions to disengage the bulkhead and see if it stays locked. So just to confirm before I start pulling it apart. The bulkhead is the bit where the airline connects in on the outside of the housing, yes? And if I start undoing it, will anything drop off on the inside? (I also have a quick release hose on it, can I just drop that off and achieve the same thing?) if the above fails to work, and there was nothing obvious when the diff was swapped over, what could it be??? It hisses when it supposed to disengage? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, 5ierra. |

The piston was initially my thought and mentioned that to him, so, until proven otherwise I'm going to assume he checked that. |

Very interested to find out if just dropping the air hose off will achieve the same thing as undoing the bulkhead, as this is something i can check now easily and getting this fixed is abit of an urgent matter (The car is sold and I'm meant to be handing it over tomorrow). |

steak_knife wrote: solenoid. Pull the air house out and it still didnt disengage. Spoke to the guy who did the work, he said that the brass line had a small kink in it. He blew air through it and it wasnt blocked so he though it was fine, guessing that wasn't the case. No harm though, dropping the car off to get it sorted this arvo Cheers stekky! 5ierra. |

no way, is it blocked air line. its either a broken piston, or its a broken piston. you actually have to pull the whole thing down to find it though, you cant just look at it from the out side. |

I cant speak for the dude, but I specifically told him that that is what I thought the problem is, so surely he would have checked that. All I know is that he took it back and is looking at it again. I'll let you know how I go. |

Lockie had a similar issue. turned out to be the internal copper tube had been twisted turning it into a one way valve. Always use 2 spanners when doing up the airline. Unfortunalely you have to pull the whole diff to check. |

I can see how that might happen, but I would expect that air would leak out over time and unlock eventually. say over weeks of no use. this is locked full time. |

This is what we believe the issue is, he said a kink was visible but blew air through so he thought it was fine. tanshi wrote: I can see how that might happen, but I would expect that air would leak out over time and unlock eventually. say over weeks of no use. this is locked full time. I didnt check to see if it was unlocked when I put the diff together, I just took it out for a test drive, which included locking the front diff. So it may have been unlocked when I installed it? Who knows. All I know is that its back with the mechanic and he;s assured me it'll be 100% before it leaves. |
