so i was going through the haynes service manual for my sj70 and there are a few things it recommends replacing at certain intervals that i can almost garentee havent been done and wanted some advice on weather i should do these things or not. Or particular signs to look for on them to see if they need replacing
(the clock says 330,000 almost - ill be aiming for a big service then. The previous owners lived in wagga, an older couple, and told me they used to tow it behind the carivan and so did the people before them who i think he said were the orginal owners and the speedo was not disconnected hence the high kms, god knows how much truth is actually in that story but it was a good sale point on their behalf hah)
I have had the car approx 30,000kms, 2 years, have done regular normal services,
And also have had the following done:
-rear break shoe (L&R)
-Rear break wheel cylinders (L&R)
-Break Fluid
-Rear uni joint
-Front and Rear Wheel bearing 'kits' and Wheel Bearing lubricant
-Rear Axle Oil Seals
-Timing belt
-fuel Pump gasket
-temperature sender
-thermostat
-dizzy cap
-Rotor button
-radiator
-clutch
-water pump
-Gear oil
-Head reconditioned
-New manifold, with new 2inch exhaust, new muffler with cat removed
-alternator reconditioned with new bushes i think he called it, cant quite rememember, it died and i so got it reconditioned hah
Most of this work was done in conjuction with putting a recondtioned motor in (as the old one was reconditioned, re-honed, but that mechanic royally F**ked up, piston rings on backwards
, they broke throwing oil out the exhaust, engine siezed and basically threw away, currently looking for an engineer to back up the fair trading mechanics statement and he will sued for all that work plus the new work once we find someone.There is a shuddering issue that has been noticed, have checked all i could but she will being going to see a mechanic next week and thought i may as well get him to check a few things that, according to the manual, should have been done a long time ago!
so i need a little advice on whether these things should actually be bothered with or not
so the things it says should have been done more the once by now,
-under hood hose replacement- they say to replace only when needed, but as some may be 20years old would a -just incase replacement be in need?
-Dif oil- has not been done since ive had the car
-transfer case lubricant/oil - has not been done since ive had the car
-steering knuckle oil seal replacement - has not been done since ive had the car
-spark plug leads, apparently unless they come with the dizy cap havent been done
-thermostatically controlled air cleaner (TCAC) check
-fuel filter - has not been done since ive had the car but am planning to with the service
-EGR valve replacement
-positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve
-evaporative emissions contril system check and charcoal canister replacement
-oxygen sensor replacement
-carby reco/check-- would this be easier to get a trustworthy opinion from a mechanic or is there certain things to look for
also will be upgrading the suspension to OME 2inch lift as the front leaf's are 180degrees flat!
i am relatively new to zooking and this is my first 4x4, i am keen to get under and get dirty and with the help of the boyfriend and dad im sure we could manage most things i listed as according to the manual they dont look crazy hard.
Any thing else that i should be getting the condition of checked or consider replacing would be lovely- apart from the shuddering she runs pretty well, very noisey but that is expected although havent driven another sierra so i have nothing to compare too
currently im at uni in armidale so doing all this is a little tricky as i have to wait for weekends off and head to glen and make a mess at the boyfriends house there but ill be going home soon and they she can sit for a few days while i work on her
