i wanna give my swb vitara a suspension lift without spending big bucks has anyone got shockies and springs off other cars and managed to create a cheap lift. also need some helpwith my body lift ive made up my own blocks from 50X50 square tubing and drilled holes through the middle but trying to work out what size sleeve bolt to get has anyone else done this and can tell me what size thread and length of bolt |

Define "big bucks"? How much do you want to lift? Short answer - commodore shocks and 180SX springs for the rear. Front there aren't really any easy substitutions from other cars, so Dobinsons or similar struts and springs is probably the best bet. Also search for 'strut mount flip'. What state are you in and are you intending to keep the car legal? SHS blocks for a body lift are generally frowned upon by the powers that be. Better to get a proper kit from just_cruising on here - everything you need including pretty good instructions. |

im pretty much broke atm  and can get really cheap car parts from people i know i would be trying to get at least 2 inches and also just want a smoother ride. yeah ive heard about square blocks being a problem for the coppas but my mate has had them for a while with no dramas on his hilux. cant really see why theyd be worse than the poly blocks out there |

What grade, profile and wall thickness steel are you planning to use? What forces are your blocks rated and able to take? Don't know? That's why poly blocks or solid steel blocks are the only ones that can be engineered, depending on which state you are in. If you don't want it to stay legal, then do whatever you want. Do a search and have a browse through the rigs section for what other people have done re: suspension. |

50x50x5 mild steel tubing rounded edges. ive used this stuff as spacers to jack up a truck cant see 8 of them spaced out on a little vitara failing apparently the poly spacers can bend causing the body to shift n knock the gear stick into neutral. has anyone on here had this problem? |

Only problems I've seen with body lifts has been with SHS. If you don't have the skills to make round body blocks you don't have the skills to make the required socket bolts, so the whole thing is a dangerous mess. |

Unless you have all the equipment and skill or a mate who does and is keen/hasnt learned his lesson, it'll be more sensible to buy an off the shelf kit. Rhs body lifts suck butthole and so obviously dodgy. Even on a trail car, I probably wouldnt use rhs blocks. Rhs blocks usually mean things get butchered (bolts shortened) to make the rhs work. Poly blocks are fine (depending on material used). Usually its the same stuff used in bridge bearings, with crush tube type system too. Solid alloy is my preference, but quality poly kits are acceptable. Stop being tight and save yourself a lot of headaches. Get a kit, its reversible, value if vehicle isn't destroyed, and bl kit can be sold later if needed. |

haha yea im at tafe n have fuck all money but i can pretty much get free material but you's are right i would prefer buying a kit but ill just have to wait a while  my mate didn't seem to have much problems with his hilux he did the same thing about a year ago |

i made my own lift kit from polly bar and for the bolts i used hi-tensile grade 9 ones from a shop--had to spend some money the nuts i used for the bolts you cant change hanging thru the boby were 55mm long 9/16 inch hi -tensile bolt tops with a 10mm female thread tapped thru the middle |

yea i think thats kinda what i was planning, are you talking about sleeve bolts? threaded over the existing body bolts and have you had any problems with that |
