Hey gang, I'm currently running lwb vitara breaks in the front of my sierra and pintara rear breaks. It pulls up great etc...but how much difference in break force is there between standard sierra breaks and the vitara breaks?

Reason I ask is I'm having width issues. I have kpd bead locks and with the vitara breaks I have to run wheel spacers to clear the calipers and I don't think there is enough meat to grind the vit breaks down. If I go back to sierra breaks ill be able to chop 60mm 8O of my front width off which is huge( plus all the other advantages of been narrower). My front end width issues were apparent straight away when I went wheeling the other day to

Has anyone got any ideas on how I could stick with vit breaks and take the spacers off? (Yes I know there are other alloy bead locks out there, but I can't justify the coin ATM for new rims).

How much is my breaking performance going to suffer going back to standard breaks?

Interesting to hear if anyone has gone from rear disk brake > that + front vitara caliper on 33's too.

It's on the bottom of my list of possible upgrades :). Just the rear disc brakes made a big difference to the pedal feel and stopping (+ the maintenance ;) ).

You should be able to run sierras or whatever you want anywhere without an issue but you should put in a proportioning valve and dial it in.
How big are the pinatra callipers compared to the sierra ones?

My setup is sierra fronts on the rear, vit ones on the front, Nissan GQ master cylinder, sierra booster(thanks monley), handbrake on the transfer case.
Pedal sits nice and high and has good feel, I did run without a booster for quite a while but pedal effort was very high.

I had the same issue, I upgraded to Vit calipers on the front then because of the KPD wheels went back to Sierra stock calipers. With the rear pintara calipers and the sierra fronts I could still lock up all four on dirt and I never really felt under braked.

Well that's good to know. How easily would it lock up? I'm guessing my lwb would have a fair bit more weight over your old shorty tho

That's how much I would need to take off to clear the breaks....to much? :?

I was going to to swap back to standard breaks as a test run but I found this morning I don't have any old discs lying around :(

I personally wouldn't want to take that much off a calliper for on road use. My GV had a fair trim but not that much.

My shorty would have been surprisingly heavy with quite heavy front and rear bars, winch and the roll cage. Your ute would probably still weigh more though but probably not by a huge margin. It would take some effort to lock up, down hill wasn't an issue and slowing down from speed felt better than it did previously.

It is a fair bit to take off I agree. What do you think would be a cause of failure if I did take that much off? To much heat?


It has been suggested to me running uber long wheel studs and 8mm spacers, but I'm not overally keen on that idea :?

Too much load.

The piston is essentially fighting that side of the caliper.
It may or may not just snap those fingers off under hard braking.

Exactly what Dan said. They are made in a cast and the material does not bend, it cracks.

I ran long studs and had a cut down disc brake centre on the front as a spacer so it was about 8mm. The rear floater spaced the rear out about the same. This is also something I probably would not do for a road going car but hey with those beadlocks you're going to stand out anyway.

Mhh..that could be a option. I think 30mm spacers would stand out a bit more than 8mm spacers

Anyone know if swb vit calipers can be used on lwb discs? As im lead to beleave the caliper is sierra size but I'm unsure if they will fit fit onto lwb discs
