Good evening Vitara aficionados,

Took my g16B auto out for a play on Saturday and got a little muddy

Went okay on Sunday, no damage to speak of, just very dirty. Gave a good spray clean with the pressure washer on the outside and under the car. Gave the some of the engine a quick wash with a steam cleaner (away from the crucial components dizzy, electrics etc) Found a minor power steering leak / weep and topped up so I can deal with it on the weekend.

everything seemed fine until this morning when under power the O/D light began flashing, and it was down on power. Lifted off accelerator and light stopped flashing, it kicked into O.D and went fine. Next set of lights same thing happened and seems to happen frequently (but not constantly).

Has anyone come across this before? I have checked fluid which is fine, and not watery or anything, all cables are attached (didn't clean any, and they hadn't been any more exposed than in the past)

It is now running slightly larger tyres than before, and it had a snorkel fitted last week.

The flashing OD light is most likely a diagnostic failure indicator, find out how to read the codes from the transmission controller - possibly water in a connector.

So theoretically if it drys out it could just sort itself? I do wish the thing had a OBD II system. Is there a thread on transmission controllers?

So constant flash now. How do I read the codes on this model of Vit? I have a scan tool that works on modern cars, just nothing to work on this. Happy to be linked to appropriate thread if it already exists?

As far as I can tell when the OD light flashes the TCM goes into limp mode and doesn't drop into low from a standing start, which is why it feels down on power.
Make sure your multimeter is set on the correct range when you measure the resistance of the speed sensor. If you need to replace the TCM and can't find one locally try ebay.co.uk.

Sounds about right, worse case scenario, I should be able to drive it in manual mode for the time being?

It's not too hard, just follow the steps one at a time. If you pull out the TCM plug and shift manually you only get 3 gears.
