Post subject:  Sierra with mk1 conversion help!!!!!!
Hey guys got my first zook
85 hardtop Sierra with a mk1 gti conversion
Got it yesterday drove around all afternoon/night
Took it for a drive this morning all good
Got home then went to go out and wouldn't start
so checked battery all good will not jump start and won't clutch start
Then thought it may have ran out of fuel shook the car sounded fairly empty shook
Some more and then it kicked over then conked out as if it ran out of fuel so went
And filled a tinny up and put some fuel in it
And nothing,
Any ideas will check that it's getting spark tomorow the plugs are all good
How am I ment to get the dizzy cap off ? I can't even get the
Leads of cause of space constraints any tricks
So that I can check the rota button ect ??

When you turn on the key , can you here the fuel pump startup?

dunno if you'll be able to get the cap or rotor off, but undoing the gearbox mounts and lifting the back of that with a jack allows just enough room to change the leads. should be able to do it without undoing anything else...

I'm with UBZ,
sounds like fuel pump not picking up fuel. If its an inline VL fuel pump like mine it runs out of fuel with about 5 litres left in it and you can hear the fuel pump cavitating (sucking air) before it runs out.
on the mk2 if you remove the tappet cover you can get to the bolts that hold the distributor in and remove the whole distributor.

It's a MK1 so i would say he won't have a problem with pulling the dizzy
As clanger said...from MK2/3 you don't need to unbolt the engine or anyting like that....just pull the rocker cover off and then undo the 2 bolts on the top that holds the dizzy in place and lift up :)

I would say it's your fuel pump too
Are you running any surge tanks etc?

Assuming that the starter is winding over
Earth wires are where i would be looking .
with the Mk1 , if the ECU cant make a path to ground through the fuel pump , if wont activate the main ECU relay .
you should hear an external pump regardless of weather its got fuel or not . And you should be able to feel an intank pump .
if the ECU sees the pump, then you should get 12volt at the coil and dissy .
