So im happy with my jimny, only disapointed in one thing, the food blender in the engine bay, it does its job but as jermey clarkson says, power!!! Ive just been reading up, whats better swift sport 1.6 or the 1.8? And is the jdm and adm 1.6 differnt? And forged internals with high compression vs 200mls?

Cheers wolf

M18, cheaper and will be less worried by the shitty fuel and ignition timing it will get from the 1.3 ecu.

I hope you won't have problems with Euro NCAP as that applies to crash protection! I've been keeping an eye on the various threads and it seems like the M18 is a bit too much for the standard tcase and gearbox. The M13 also seems to be more tolerant to the M16 engine so I'm a little surprised by Royce's comment. JDM and ADM emissions standards should be the same from around 2006 on because both countries adopted Euro standards.

Dont confuse the 92kw swift sport engine with the M15 or non VVT ones.

mine pings and runs terrible with slight fuel changes (fiddling with emanage I can) so I am sure it would love a 1.3 ecu and manifolds

the extra drama of the m18 builds, clutches, sensors, and everything else im more tempted to stick with a m13 or go to a m15.

imo its the torque figures that are worth comparing, not the power figures. my m13 has no problems reaching rev limiter when i want it to and spinning the wheels.
more torque for towing and general day to day would be nice but, and the m18 delivers by far compared to the m16

From my own experience the m18 is easier to drive, you can drive it like it a normal car and not have to rev it get to torque you need to get moving on road with the rest of the traffic, but the m15 is just seems happier to rev and is more fun to drive off road than the m18. Me personally, I'd go the m18a and just go easy on the loud peddle

After sorting my early bugs I've decided that I love the 1.8 swap. The 1.3 ecu works well with it, certainly no pinging or even a hint of it and not running rich. Haven't thrown a code since sorting the O2 sensor. The torque is incredible compared to the 1.3 and my Jimny is so much easier to drive. My economy hasn't changed, so far I've only run 98 octane but have just filled with e10 from empty to see how it goes. I'm running a non VVT gearbox so feel confident about it handling the power but I'm not so sure about the chain driven transfer although I don't think any of the 1.8 guys have broken one yet.

i doubt anyone will snap a chain in the transfer, they just may have shorter life expectancy before they stretch.

unless of course the rear wheels aren't turning and the input is, then all the stretching will happen on half the chain, causing it to break before it slips off the teeth of the sprocket.

Plenty of chains of failed on 1.3s. Like everything though, depends on how it's driven too.
