Am about to install my freshly reconditioned engine and gearbox into my Jimny. Can the engine and gearbox be installed as one unit? Thanks, Ray |

Thanks, Ray Unless there is some incredibly big difference between the Jimny and the SJ413 (what I have), I would say you can install both as a unit. The only reason why I would think that you could not do it might be the existence of a non-removable cross member just behind the engine. The SJ has an unboltable one but you can still remove both the engine and gearbox as a unit with that piece in place. Having said the above.... You probably will need to remove the radiator shroud and the fan to obtain enough clearance to do the job. If things are even tighter in a Jimny than in an SJ, you might also need to remove the radiator. You will need one of those adjustable engine beams to hold the engine/gearbox at the right angle as you lower it into place. You can rent one with the engine hoist when you are ready to do the job. Go for it! |

I'd be pulling the radiator regardless. It only takes a second and you'll have the crank pulley damaging it. Also be aware that you'll need plenty of overhead room and a hoist that will go high enough to get it in |
