I have a leak due to the transfer case gasket deteriorating, has anyone sealed one up in situ or at least without taking the whole thing apart? |

Best off splitting the case and removing all the old gasket and then using some gasket silicon to reseal it. |

Have you tried not splitting one to seal it? |

You could try draining the oil overnight, spray the crap outta the parting line that is leaking with degreaser, blow dry with an air gun and try jamming some ultra gray/black or any other quality oil resistant silicone in there. |

Transfers are fairly simple to take apart, I'd just bite the bullet and do that. It's probably never going to be right otherwise. |

Ah you guys Simple but not always easy. Time poor so it will be the ultra grey method. I have managed to split it about a 1/4 inch which should be enough to through some sploodge in. yes it wont last forever but it will prob last long enough. If nothing else it will be a test case for others to learn from |

just food for thought the transfer gasket is part of system for setting the gear mesh and preload . Changing the thickness with gasket goo is going to change the gear contact pattern etc etc etc . your transfer might get nosier , explode etc . |

yeah good call, I think there is enough gasket there to keep the distance and meshing correct, its just needs a little help in some places |

burls wrote: Have you tried not splitting one to seal it? Yes , I sealed my Sierra transfer that had started to leak by draining the oil ,cleaning where it leaked with some contact cleaner then spread silicone gasket sealant and attached the vacuum cleaner to the fill plug hole . worked a treat . |
