hey everyone. ok so i start work early in the morning being 90 ks away from work and my suzi obviously isnt a morning car. i think this has something to do with the auto choke. she starts first time but is at a really low idle, this is possibly because the auto choke isnt working?? if you try to speed off to soon, it stalls? sit there for 10min or so and the revs come up to normal..really frustrating specially when you wake up late and its freeeeezing in kilcoy. haha any help would be good. cheers ay.

I aint had my sierra for long so dont know a hell of alot BUT;
Sounds similar to mine, Only because I adjusted it and now its to low lol.. I have to manually keep the revs up for 2mins till it takes over.. For me theres a little electronic actuator I adjusted off and now its causing the low idle.

I thought it was a different adjustment as my idle is fine I just want to reduce the idle when the lights are on.. I did the wrong one lol.. So ill be putting it back to how it was :)

I'm assuming you could do the same, look for the little actuators near the carby with screws..

kk thanks heaps. yeh sounds about right, i know near the carby there is an auto choke and if you spread it apart sort of it revs higher...haha no idea how that works. i will give it a try when i get it home from the mechanics lol.

ok to set the choke

with engine cold and the intake hat off, the flap should be closed, look at the little gear type linkage on the side that actuates it and you will see 2 lines, they should line up, if not the tension is wrong, to set that look round the back/side of the carb where the water hoses connect and you will see a screw sticking out of a cylindrical chamber, turn that till they line up, now the amount of choke and time it stays on should be right

next the fast idle speed, have a good look at the throttle linkage and down out of the way youll see a screw you cant get at unless you are holding the throttle full open, thats the fast idle, to set hold the throttle open and screw it in a bit, let it go and start it up and see, I guess you want 1000-1200 rpm.

should be all good then, before doing this when the engine is up to temp check both water hoses into the carb are hot, otherwise there is a blockage and the choke will never turn off

wow. i think i follow all that. lol thanks alot royce. i will give it ago once i get her back and let you know. i might run into another problem. one good thing about this no work stuff is the amount of time you have for your car hey. and for beer.
