Post subject:  Fuel tank removal

Could not find much info about this on here. 1999 Jimny was running fine, was sitting idling when it started to choke (like running out of fuel) then had no power at all when accelerating through 1st, 2nd and 3rd and nowhere near enough power to make it into 4th, and continued to cough and splutter when at idle.

Was suggested to me by mechanic mate that it could be blocked fuel filter.

Fuel filter is an in tank unit.

1. I read another post with similar problem (no power etc) that said it was most likely a blocked cat? or that it could be something electrical?
2. Has anyone changed the fuel filter?
3. Having a quick look underneath it looks like I might be able to manouver the fuel tank covers out without needing to remove anything. Do I need to pull anything off the car to take out the actual fuel tank? or is there any hints or tips from someone that has done this before?
4. After I do get the fuel tank out, and since it is out, is there something that I can use to flush/clean inside the tank to get out any gunk (might as well do it) such as metho etc?
5. I used to use a sealer inside bike fuel tanks, like a paint you pour in and swish around that coated the inside of the tank to protect against rust and pin holes - has anyone done similar and is it worth it?

Did you pull the tank? How'd you go switching out the filter? Doing this myself soon
