| Post subject: | How to remove Jimny rear diff centre |
Hi, It seems that my rear diff bearings are screwed after sucking in some muddy water last weekend. My question though is how do I remove the rear diff centre? Do I need to remove the axles? I habe never done anything like this before so am not sure where to start. So far I have removed the tailshaft, rear wheels, and have removed the rear rotor. This is where I am stuck. What do I do from here? Thanks |

Rear rotor? You running disk brake conversion? For a Jimny with stock brakes you need to remove the axles. To do this you'll need to unbolt the brake backing plates and use a puller to get the axles out. |

Brake drum I meant. Was thinking of the front. The brake backing plates are undone. |

Tap the axles out with a rubber hammer normally you can pull them off by hand , take nolts off around the diff then tap the center so you can crack the seal and pull it out, make sure you dont damage the axle seals when pulling the axle out |

I have an old drum that I use as a slide hammer to pull the axle. Slide it back onto the lugs back-to-front, then put the wheel nuts back on but only a couple of threads so the drum can slide back and forth a couple of centimetres. Pulls the axle nice and straight |

Cheers guys, I managed to get them out and have pulled the diff partly apart. I have to get brand new bearings and seals for it |
