I'm running 2 inch lift with 235/70/16 Toyo AT's on a '98
They rub slightly on the chassis on the front at full lock (got worse since I fitted camber bolts)
I think ODA1 is running 225/75 Cooper's on his.
Anything wider or taller would require going to town on the suspension, body or both IMO.
Mine is a '98 also.
235/70 is +6.8% (gearing & speedo) over std 235/60
225/75 is +8%
255/60 is only +3.5%
245/65 is only +5.3%
3.5% or 5.3% is more appealing than 6.8% or 8%
Only trouble is that more height (radius) is easier to fit than more width for the following reason:-
If the front wheels are at 45 degrees on full lock, then an extra inch of diameter, (half inch of radius) would have the same effect as a half inch of extra width, but I don't think full lock is that much, so an extra inch of diameter (half inch of radius) is easier to accommodate than a half inch of width, because at less that 45 degrees the side-wall is more parallel to the chassis, and the tread surface is more perpendicular.
(over 45 degrees and the width becomes easier to accommodate than the radius)
This is obviously why the thinner /70s & /75s are the choice. Bummer, I didn't really want that much change in gearing.
I have camber bolts fitted also. Does the front or rear of the tyre rub on the chassis? Any other concerns with 235/70s?
I could live with a little less lock, so I am wondering if it is possible to fit stops like on non IFS 4X4s.
