hey team, having dramas with my M16A powered Jimny,

it seems to be chewing through coilpacks (3 sets in 6 months)

its missing, and mass hesitation while accelerating (even just free - reving its sounds ugly)

i dont high rev, i havent done any deep creek crossing. im at a loss why this happens

alternatly, is there a "better" option for coilpacks? would even consider external coilpacks and leads

cheers Tony

is it the packs or the probes/HT leads

im not sure, but why would a probe/lead just suddenly die?

I wonder if trapped heat under the plastic coil pack cover causes early failure? I've had some coil pack issues too.

Per Atari's comment- check the lead isn't worn and arcing on the bonnet. I've had this happen before.

There was discussion ages ago about coil packs and using genuine over repco etc too... not sure what the end result was but i believe people found genuine to be better / last longer???

Also, have you checked the spark plugs aren't the culprit?

Another coilpack has died.

It can't be heat has im running a bonnet scoop and have drilled holes through the coilpack cover for plenty of ventilation

I think it's the packs themselves. As I have had to re-use the probe the last time and it's worked perfect up until now

It seems to only be the coilpack closer to the radiator.

Looking at a M series engine, it looks like the coilpacks would have the same heatsoak/dying issue as an RB motor. Maybe remove the cover completely and see if that helps. Are they OEM coils?

Yes OEM coils. With the amount of holes drilled in the cover. It would be almost the same as no cover. Just better protection from water

Would love to do an external coilpack on the firewall with leads going down. But haven't looked too much into it
