Post subject:  Jimnybits updates/new products
they are awesome to target our cars and they seem to be developing more stuff everyday.

I jumped in the website to check prices, and I saw few new stuff, so guessing few ppl here wouldn't know either. So as I dot think there is a dedicated tread, I might create one to chat about this new products

front and back recovery points (wondering if the fronts would be up to task)

witch is pretty cool. Many ppl here didn't like the old ones and say that the TD ones were much better. Well they seem to have a design just like the TD ones, so pretty cool


and what it really caught me by surprise. rear brake disc conversion kit

by using front jimmy rotors and Renault Megane / Scenic callipers (no idea if we have that car in OZ or an equivalent? )
at the moment the kit is sell as it is, in the future they say they will sell full with with brake hoses, callipers, and pads

so how does this kit difference with the full floater kit from joeblow for example

We got the Megane and Scenic here. There's probably people wrecking them on Aussiefrogs. Parts for Renaults are surprisingly cheap, even new.

The full floater kit gives you stronger axles, better wheel bearings and greater dependability (if you break an axle/diff you can pull the axles out or flanges off and keep on driving in front wheel drive, or with the diff locked ect).

Great Idea bertzook - also if people can review them if they purchase them.

recovery points look interesting, better than standard, but a paperclip is better than standard

Rear disk conversion, this interests me greatly. might look further into this

These caliper brackets are only secured to the diff housing by the 4 bolts through the flange, which is also all that retains your axle. They are exposed to shear forces by the caliper, and tension from the weight of the vehicle. I see that the bolts supplied with the kit are capscrews, with the thread running the full length of the bolt, reducing the cross section and creating shear force weak spots.

Joe Blow's kit is double thickness and shaped to engage around the outside of the flange on the diff housing, eliminating the shear forces on the bolts. The bolts now only bear tension of the weight of the vehicle. The kit not only gives you stronger axles, but removes the weight bearing of the vehicle from the axles and transmits it wholly through the larger bearings and the axle housings only.

still a good cheap-ish mod to do. now wonder how big the renault callipers would be in comparison to the jimmy ones?. Is there a way to improve the front brakes too?. I know that ideally the front should be better than the back, but by making the back brakes same, if not better than front is not an issue?

Vitara rotors
Vvt is a different story as apparently the spindle hub has a bigger hole as zukenutter discovered,havent yet checked but if your interested i can get you some measurements. If this is the case you would have to use pre vvt hubs.

Yeah definitely a larger hole in the centre, can't remember the diameters but I think it was less than a mm difference.

^^ This is correct... my Sierra floater kit runs vitara hubs on the rear and non-vvt jimny rotors with pintara calipers and swift GTi handbrake lines =)

Jimny and Vit use PN. DBA 513 solid rotors and the vented vitara rotors (DBA514) are what im told you need to run when doing this brake upgrade.

Parts you need for the conversion are
Vitara LWB rotor
Vitara LWB backing plate
Vitara LWB callipers
Will I have to do new wheel bearing anyways so I will us my spare diff parts form a 99 jimny

if you are doing the upgrade post a link here to the build up process (remember lots of pics ;) ) also are you doing just the front, or doing the back too? might as well using this kit

be the test dummy and let us know how it go :D
