hey all
can someone tell me when vitara's went from carb to efi?
what years for centerpoint?
when exactly did multipoint start?
were the center point 1.6's an ok motor?
looking for a simple transplant for the sierra and mpi doesn't really interest me as im not after the power just torque and to get away from the carb problems.

No eye deer on what years etc. I got my centrepoint setup from suzisport for $200 if I recall correctly. That was without a computer or loom though. I bolted this straight to a carb's g16 and haven't had a drama since. Very reliable and a lot more grunt than the old g13. If your just looking for the benefit of EFI you can bolt the centrenpoint and intake manifold (what I bought) straight up to the g13. Remember you need to sort a computer though, either stock or aftermarket. I wen't with a build it yourself computer called a megasquirt. It would be easier to just source a stock computer though.

the wagons had the 16 valve from 92 I think

ahhhh....has been an interesting thread on outers.

ok.will try share some of my experiances.

vitara wagons have a mpfi motor known as type 1. dizzy with cone type air flow meter.

vitara swb (pre garnd) vehicles came out with a type 2 mpfi motor. dizzy, hotwire air flow sensor and some other minor manifold changes. this motor also featured in lwb wagons of that year onwards.

single point injection was on overseas spec 8 valv engines and the swift sedan 1.6 multi valve had a tbi setup.

as far as blocks cracking it happens to both types, whether it be 8 or 16 valve. let me just say i've only come across 4 out of over 100 or so of these engines that have done it, but its not a 'habbit' of these engines and it would not bother me. they have and can be tigged up with no problems.

the heads on these motors are very good. i have dealt with 2 cracked heads, once again would not bother me. NOTE: the swift 16 valve head will allways crack, everyone i have come across has had one. would steer clear of these heads.

the early g16b, whether type 1 or 2 is a VERY worthwhile conversion as there is little to do except set it up in the bay properly and do a good job of the wiring, and power is excellent (depending on gearing).

the coil pack baleno will require a bit more nutting out and is a nice motor, but i doubt you will notice the difference in power between dizzy and coil pack versions. i have done many of these conversions using all types of 1.6 efi and there is very little difference between them, it just comes down to price and how prepared you are to do it right.

you WILL not gain 10kw between a coil pack version over a dizzy version. would be fantastic if that was the case though.

vitara type 2 efi - 71 kw.

baleno coil pack - 72 kw.

WOW!.............a whole 1 kw.
