Hi guys so I have had lots of different info about reduction gear sets for my GV its a 2004 model with the update interior and it's an auto 2.5 v6. Some say they fit with no mods but all the manufacturers say they only fit up to 2001 model GVS So can anyone give me some info before I spend a heap of cash on something that ,at not work Many thanks |

Fourth is an "over drive" gear (less than a 1:1 ratio) - in this case 0.73:1 |

Hijack on X2. There are four distinct ratios. 1-4. 4th gear is an overdrive ratio, and because of the 1980's Japanese obsession with gadgets, this ratio has often been engaged and disengaged with a separate button marked O/D. since the prevalence of "tiptronic" style shifters, thankfully, it's now considered a ratio just like any other. In fact, the 8 and 9(!) speed automatics now being produced frequently have two overdrive ratios. The use of the term "X speed plus overdrive" typically refers to 1960's vehicles with a 3 or 4 speed manual gearbox and a separate overdrive unit (often made by Moss) which would be engaged once the car was in 4th to lower cruise revs. These could sometimes be used to split other gears. Land Rovers and land cruisers often used Fairy overdrives in Australia. ARB used to sell them! Highjack off |

They should fit, mine will fit them. To be sure pull your case out and get a measurement of the input shaft. From memory it should be around 24.XXmm. What do you want to run crawler gears for? They will be useless on the beach etc. With the auto I find it able to crawl up stuff very well, descents I just have to use the handbrake. I probably wouldn't bother with gears if I wasn't going to run 33s. |

I live 20 minutes out of the vic high country and the hills I drive are super super steep and long, I'm getting sick of cooking my brakes or having to go way to fast down hill! I'm running 225/75/16 km2 muddies and I actually like the ratio on the road so don't really want to do diff gears. So I thought low range gears would be a good option. I don't know if I'm technical enough to drop my transfer case out? You mean the gears you have for sale that have been resplined? If so aren't they to suit an xl7 which has a different transfer?? |

Fair enough, I cooked my brakes once and put it into a tree... Didn't use my handbrake is why. Pretty easy, just undo all the bolts and unclip the clips haha. No mine will suit an XL7 box, which is 26.XXmm. They are the same transfer just with different output shaft splines. |

Yeah, which the gears are 24.XXmm. Just depends on your gearbox input shaft, not sure if its the same as XL7s or not. Either way should be able to get crawler gears in it. |

I'd like to think the O/D disable button is more than just another "button/gadget" - it not only disables overdrive/fourth gear (which can be quite handy when towing), it also allows the torque converter to "lock-up" in third gear, which improves fuel economy and helps reduce transmission temps, again, whilst towing. |

Oh no fordem, I wasn't for a second suggesting for a second the need to be able to individually select 4th gear isn't important, only that it needn't be on a separate button on the shifter with a special little light. The Europeans never saw the need to do this and just called 4th 4th, or D, and allowed individual selection of each gear via the shifter. I regularly select whether I want 4th or 3rd in my Sierra, but because it's on that stupid shifter mounted switch I'm forever bumping it inadvertently. I shift manually a lot whilst offroad, and I've modified my shifter so the detents work better for off road use, but I'm basically stuck with the stupid switch. As I've said, there has been a change in philosophy here, as an example, in the current hilux 4th is engaged/disengaged by sliding the lever left/right in the D plane, and that's how it's labelled - D or 3 |

I've got access to the suzuk parts database and want to make sure I'm checking the spline size of the right part?? This is the exploded diagram  Is it the part shown listed as 16 with part number or is it part number 18 or am I barking up the wrong tree altogether |

So I have confirmed with Suzuki that the part shown as number 1 in that diagram is the same part number for all GVS from 98-04 and that includes the h25 and j20. They did tell me some other parts in the box had different part numbers for instance 16 in that exploded view is different between j20 and h25 So in theory as long as the part listed #1 is identical then the gears should fit????? |

So I measured the output shaft and it's just under 25mm?? So I figured the gears would fit so range the mechanic that I use who is a suzuki specialist and tried to book it in to get gears fitted, he tells me that he tried to fit the low range offroad gears to a sq25 auto last year and they wouldn't work or fit? He actually had gears custom made at a cost of 2400 bucks!!! So he's telling me hex tried and they won't fit!! GOD IM CONFUSED |

Odd, Can't see why they fit an XL7 Auto but won't fit a GV :S Only difference is the output shaft spline diameter. Yep just under 25mm is correct. 24.XXmm was what I got, can't remember exactly. |

I'm pretty sure that it was 24.87 or something like that! Yeah so Allan Johnson from pirahana tells me this arvo that he has a GV with reduction gears fitted and that he tried the low range offroad ones in his sq625 and they wouldn't work. When I asked what the problem was he didn't offer much info but he told me that he ended up getting his gears custom made and that cost 2500 bucks!! I said how about if I supply gears and if you try and they don't fit I'll still pay you! He said he was that sure that they didn't fit that if I supplied gears that fitted that he would pay me for them!! He told me the only way he knows apart from custom gears is to get a 1.6 transfer and then get an adapter machined to make it fit but again this would cost a ton of cash? So any more input would be appreciated I'm hoping to find someone that has done it I swear I recently saw an sq625 with reduction gears for sale? |
