| Post subject: | 2014 Jimny Stability Control |
Hey everyone. I've had an '09 Jimny since 2011 but unfortunately it was killed yesterday in a traffic accident - I'm more devastated than you would believe. Blimin' awesome little beasty it was :'( Anyway, I want another Jimny once the insurance company does its thing and I'm trying to decided what to get. I'm looking for information on the 2014 Jimny (or 2013 if they're the same) with Stability control. Does anyone have one, does it work at all off road - ie pinch brakes to stop wheelspin when you're cross-axled so the car can keep moving? Or does the car just sit there like a pork chop while some dash lights flash at you? Basically I reckon I have the choice of picking up an early Jimny and maybe eventually throwing in an M18A and some lockers in it (which I expect is a great way to continually smash driveshafts) or going through salary sacrificing for a brand new Jimny - which would mean I'd be stuck with the glacially slow 1.3 but the stability control might work *nearly* as good as lockers with less of the snappy axle things happening...? And I've also heard on the grape vine that Suzuki might be releasing an updated Jimny in 2016... might be worth hanging out for that one? Anyone have any info to share? |

My 2c. Keep in mind I've never driven a Jimny equipped with stability control. I wouldn't really think that stability control would be a substitute for lockers. My money would be buying a pre 05 Jimny (more gearing options). Bung on some 30s with a small lift, twin locked with chromos for driveline reliability. |

If its anything like the vitara stability control it may be more of a hinderance in the majority of offroading unless it stays off over 40 kmphr |

Stability control isn't traction control. Stability control will likely only ever be a hinderance on loose surfaces. The traction control on the current GV is poorly calibrated. (This seems to be common of many Japanese cars. ) |

I just talked to a Suzuji dealer. He said it wont help you out offroad. It's just ESC. He also said it's disabled when you're in low range. |

makes sense - if you were suzuki and had a 14 year old car with next to no safety rating, you'd want to do as little re-engineering as possible to pass intl. requirements. |

Disabled in low range unless u go over 40km/phr i bet Which trying to spin an underpowered undergeared 1.3 up a sand dune or slippery hillclimb sucks balls when the computer keeps slowing u down |
