G'day, I'm in need of some info on my front diff , I have recently "shattered" my front diff .now I bought a GV H20A diff , to use as my housing (as its steel) . Does anyone know the diff ratio of my car? And where I may purchase a new or second hand ring and pinion ?

Off-road on a Fairly vicious track , climbing rocks there's was a lot of strain and it just gave way . It is completely snapped down the middle and cracked in places .

Ally are prone to breaking, very common.

You're chasing a 4.8 diff ratio and I have one here.

It came from a 1999 model with a H20A motor , I'm sure it's steel , should feel the weight in her !

I thought only h25 manual pre 2003 had the desired steel diff?
Some xl7 had them, most had a different type of front diff.
and post 2003 man and auto 2.5l had the steel front diff housing?

Got a pic?

There's no H20A in a GV, it's just the H25A and J20A.

Yep spot on. I believe the XL7s were the same as the GVs to begin with (auto = alloy, manual = steel) until 2003 when they went to the new orphan style that nobody wants.

No GVs in Australia came with the H20A, so I'm sure he means H25A in which case it would be steel if from a manual trans car.

The diff you bought will most like have 4.3 ratios in it.
The ratios in your own car will depend on the transmission type. Did a quick search and from what I can tell they are 4.8s if manual, or 5.12s if auto.

if it's steel it should weigh around 29kgs as a complete unit... post up a pic.

is your GV a 4cyl or a v6?

Thanks for the clarification ninjamoses , the diff did come out of a Manual . And it is steel , as you can see by looking at it . I have purchased the original diff that was in my car (alloy) , and I will be swapping out the gearing from it , to put it into the steel diff I have . Then installing it .
