is it possible just to reduce the ratio gears for the T case of the 4L and keep the same ratio for 2WD and 4H - I'm asking this as I use my SJ as a day to day drive and for some crawling in the weekends. And does any one suggest a particular ratio that will be ideal for this type of use given I have standard shafts & will be running a 4xfour Art Kit in the coming weeks.

Fit a leafy transfer case then you have a wide variety of reduction gearsets available.
Check out www.lowrangeoffroad.com they have a chart on the website that shows all the different ratios available.

is it a simple unbolt 1 and bolt in the other?

You need a WT (sj70) jackshaft and mounts. Then its a bolt in.

But it will lower high range.
I think Apio in Japan offer replacement planetary gears which will only lower low range. Expensive and not that low from memory.

Is that to suit the coily transfer steve?

I believe so, but the whole APIO thing is a pain to deal with.

Seems a bit redundant considering anything bigger than a 215 is going to throw the high range gearing out of whack.

Correct. But only by a small percentage. Depending what tyre size you are running/what gears you get it may well bring it back to standard in high range.
