Hello everybody - I am new to the forum but need some advice straight off - I hope this issue hasnt already been discussed Ad nauseam - I havent worked out how to search the archives - Basically, I want to be able to flat tow my Jimny, is changing the TC the only way to do this? If it is are there kits to adapt Sierra TC's available here in Oz? |

not something I have paid much attention to over time but I reckon there is as much support for leaving the transfer in 2wd and gearbox in neutral as having the transfer in neutral. when a sierra transfer is in neutral, the front and rear outputs are locked together, so you are spinning the front diff, effectively as bad as driving in 4wd with the hubs unlocked |

Not sure weather this will help. RECREATIONAL TOWING Vehicles equiped with manual free wheeling hubs may be towed from the front with all four wheels on the ground, or from the rear with the rear wheels secured to a towing dolly. Vehicles equipped with automatic free-wheeling hubs or with no free-wheeling hubs should only be towed from the rear with the rear wheels secured to a towing dolly. Be sure to use proper towing equipment designed for recreational towing and make sure that towing speed does not exceed 90 km/h. To tow a vehicle with all four wheels on the ground: 1. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position to unlock the steering wheel. 2. Release the parking brake. 3. Shift the transmission lever into 2nd gear. 4. Shift the transfer leverinto neutral. 5. Set the manual free-wheeling hubs to the "FREE" position. Stop the tow vehicle every 300 km. With the transmission lever in 2nd gear and the transfer lever in neutral,start the engine and rev it for about one minute with the clutch engaged, to circulate oil in the transfer case. The manual outlines other towing methods as well. One important thing to note is this warning: DO NOT TOW YOUR VEHICLE MORE THAN 80 km OR AT A SPEED OVER 50 km/h WITH THE FRONT WHEELS LIFTED AND THE REAR WHEELS ON THE GROUND, OR SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE TRAIN MAY RESULT. IF YOU NEED TO TOW YOUR VEHICLE MORE THAN 80 km OR AT A SPEED OVER 50 km/h WITH THE FRONT WHEELS LIFTED, USE A DOLLY UNDER THE REAR WHEELS. |

HEY STEVE there might be a real use for twin sticks, left in 2wd and the other stick in neutral should give a real neutral |

the 2wd 4wd 'side' doesnt have a neutral neutral in teh transfer is between high and low, so you are normally in 4wd with drive disengaged from the input, 2wd plus neutral will mean all shafts 'should' spin freely |

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - I am following up the link 'want33s' suggested - the drive line disconnect would be perfect if it can be adapted to the Jimny |
