Hi guys

I have been floating around the forum for about 3-4 months now waiting for the right zook to come along i wanted.

I have just purchased what i was looking for.

its a 97 SJ80 with 214k basically standard apart from a set of muddies that scrub and air filter with rego untill the end of april, no visable rust
even tho i havent gone over it completely but it needs 2 rear tyres for rego so that gotta be a good thing.
i managed to pick it up for $2400 with some spare king pins and all new bushes not installed yet.

i have seen some peoples posts on this forum that seem like they have been through the ups and downs of their own zook so i was hoping
for some feedback on what i am doing with mine and maybe save me some hassle and coin at the same time so i can do it properly.

Here is the list of what i want to do to it but as i said before opinions and feedback would be great so i know what to do and what not to do as its going to be a beach and bush 4x4.

-2 Inch lift kit
-2 inch body lift
-snorkel - making my own stainless one
- new radiator
-steering dampener
- 31/33 inch muddies
- front and read diff - NEED FEEDBACK ON BEST OPTIONS TO GO WITH ON THIS
- transfercase - NEED FEEDBACK ON BEST OPTIONS TO GO WITH ON THIS as i have seen 125% etc but dont now what it means

iv seen some posts where people suggest new steering arms etc but i want to ask for some fedback as i dont know much about the steering side when lifting a vehicle

Not sure on coilys but:

-2 Inch lift kit - keeping the zook low is what you want. try a virtual lift to fit tyres
-2 inch body - lift don't think is required
-snorkel - making my own stainless one - sure
- new radiator - if current one isn't over heating no point changing
-steering dampener - made a big difference for me but my old one was very destroyed
- 31/33 inch muddies - stay on 31s in my opinion, im on 32's and would rather 30/31s but I need 32s to match my gearing.
- front and read diff - NEED FEEDBACK ON BEST OPTIONS TO GO WITH ON THIS - Tanshi, can do floats and custom diffs ect ;p
- transfercase - NEED FEEDBACK ON BEST OPTIONS TO GO WITH ON THIS as i have seen 125% etc but dont now what it means - if you go to 31s 4.16:1 would be a good ratio but that's if they fit coilys

That is my opinion but again I don't know if it applies to coilys as I own a SJ70

Leafy tcase swap with some 4.9s would be a good allrounder in a coily with 31s IMO. Locking the rear diff is as per any other Sierra. (Air locker, Auto locker etc). Front diff is a whole different kettle of fish. There is no real options to lock the front as of yet. Have a read thru some tech and Build threads and you'll start to get an idea of what you can do. And chuck some pics up in the Rigs of Auszookers section. We love pics here.

No, not as far as I am aware, and I'd have no idea why anyone would want to. Front spools are terrible.

I have read up about the front spools and for a complete offroad crawler they are good but on road are shocking.. thats what i have read anyway..

Ill look into the r cases more and post again..

ill get some pics up shortly as its currently in the shed getting the suspension and body lift with the new tyres.. i went with 31s

I had
2in lift
Cut guards with bunnings edging
31 on neg 13 rims
Light barwork all round
4.1 in wt case(would go 4.9at least if I did it again)
and I drove the shit out of it. Would out drive twin locked patrols and 80s all the time.
it was so wide and low that it was super stable.
unlocked you shouldnt need cromos.

To be fair, it's not hard to out drive a patrol or cruiser.
