how do you check if the locking hubs are engaging. thanks

Lock them in and try and turn the front driveshaft with the transfer in 2h.

Drive shaft turns, 1 or more not engaging.

Drive shaft doesn't turn, both engaged.

Please put the handbrake on while doing this. Safety first.

drive onto sand in 4L

dump the clutch

if you dont move and have dug a hole with the rear wheels, your hubs are not locked

Easier still - engage 4x4, lock hubs, jack up each of the front wheels seperately and see if they can turn by hand...

You can usually feel and hear a the hub 'clicking' in if you engage it then turn the wheel slightly if it is is good condition.
