| Post subject: | HELP NEEDED: G16B Vitara Power Steering Conversion |
Hi guys, I have a 1997 Vitara SWB G16B with no A/C or P/S and just bought a 1990 Vitara SWB G16A that HAS A/C and P/S because it had a flexiglass canopy on it which is worth more than the car itself and I got the whole car for a bargain. Anyways I've been looking at it wanting to put the power steering into the G16B but looking at it it looks like the exhaust manifold will be in the way of where the P/S pump would mount. Has anybody else done this? Can someone tell me what needs to be done to fit it and will I need anything apart from whats on the car? The G16B has a 2 pulley harmonic balancer so theres a place for an extra belt. Also has anybody converted their non A/C to A/C? I know the G16A systems need to be converted to R134A but I just wanna know if they bolt up alright to the G16B and under the dash? Mine looks like it has the 2.0L dash with the 2 glove compartments. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks for your reply mate. So pretty much swap the boxes & shafts over and bolt the pump and reservoir on and bobs your uncle? Looks like the pump on yours is mounted where the A/C compressor bolts onto the G16A? On the g16b if mounting where the pump is positioned on the g16a (next to exhaust manifold) the middle bolt hole is taken up by the last bolt on the exhaust manifold. it obviously works on yours nonetheless! Thanks |

I went back and had another look, the a/c compressor is on top and p/s pump on the bottom so my bad lol. Has anyone used the a/c from a G16A in a G16B? Thanks Diesel! |

I'm sorry to just jump in on this thread but perhaps helping me could also help the OP. I've bought the parts for a G16A PS conversion for my 88 Vitara without power steering. any chance someone has a picture of where the PS hoses run and how they secure/clamp to the engine or body? I've never seen it in person nor saw the donor car. Thanks in advance |

You can see them in the photo below in the yawning gap between winch bar and skid plate. I really should do a bash plate - they really are quite exposed there.
