Hey Guys,

The other day i filled up a new tank of fuel at United. Just a little ways down the road my jimny started realllly struggling under acceleration. I have to really ride the clutch to get going and on the highway it was flatout struggling to do 80k/hr. Engine light came on periodically.

Here is a video so you can get in idea what i'm talking about.

Please help!

sounds like limp mode came on, i've had it happen also.

my jimny struggles on initial acceleration all the time, has a real 'flat spot' on initial take off. if i fill with premium unleaded it's REALLY bad, actually dangerous as i pull away from intersections.

can't help you with the cause though, i had thought it may have been a blocked catalytic converter but i temporarily dropped that on the weekend & it made zero difference.

double post, i also swapped out my O2 sensor & that didn't fix it either.

Interesting. My initial thought was something blocking the fuel filter. But I wonder now if there some sort of issue with the EGR?

wait for one of the more knowledgable guys to post up some ideas as i have nfi what's wrong with my car without trying to diagnose yours lol.

have you chucked in another tank of fuel just in case it was a dodgy batch ?

Could be some water or dirt blocking you're filter.
could be you grabed e85 by mistake?

I thought that too Jezz but looking at the manual the filter is a PITA to get out. Looks like you have to drop the whole fuel tank.

I Did fill up with e85. but have always done that and it's been fine. Maybe i hit a bad batch :/

You cant run your jimny on E85
A simple fact

i seriously doubt you have been running E85 prior to this and had no problem.

e85 is just the ethanol blend at United right?

Have been for years.

Wait wait. my bad... i've been using E10

Dunno the difference, but i've been filling up with E10 for ages.

yeah e10 shouldn't be any issue

i bet you accidentally put e85 in thinking it was e10
considering this started right after u filled up,

if you did i would suggest pumping as much unleaded in the tank as possible to dilute the ethanol.

United doesn't have E85 though do they?

I might just dump out some fuel anyways and pump unleaded in to see if it makes a difference.

united are the only ones with e85 as far as I'm aware.
the handle is orange

e85 really confuses the ECU and will trip it into limp mode

done it before topped of with 91 and it was fine after that

lesson learnt my old golf could handle up to about a 50% ethanol content before going haywire

E85 pumps should really have the same bowser lockouts that many diesel pumps have, with a warning on them you have to push before it will release the handle.

rubber hoses on fuel system likely on the way out, normal fuel systems generally have to be modified to resist the corrosion ethanol causes at those concentrations.

as suzuki hasnt changed the jimnys much, at all, ever, id say be on the lookout for other fuel system problems

I've seen what E85 & unleaded does when mixed... no way in hell will I ever fill a regular car with it.

Something built & tuned for e85 is a different story tho.

Can you siphon it out or does the filler tube have an anti siphon device? Try pushing a garden hose down the filler cap. Another way is to use the fuel pump to pump it out into jerry cans by breaking the fuel line and extending it with a hose.

It has an anti siphon device.

I think I'll have to pump it straight out of the fuel line

Have we established that Total_Filth put E85 in? I didn't think that was clear.
