Hi all, New to the Suzuki scene here. Just bought my first vitara which is a 1997 2l v6 manual. Turns out it wasn't the bargain I thought it was as there is a noise in the gearbox which sounds like one of the bearings has spun it's last. So my question is are the gearboxs the same between the v6 and 4cyl with just different bell housings or are they totally different? Any help you be greatly appreciated as my knowledge is very limited when it comes to suzukis.

Have you tried changing the oil in it? Might give it a bit more life.

Na I pulled the box out thinking it was input shaft bearing noise. Sounds like it's in a bit deeper than that. Will thicker oil quieten it down?

Wouldn't go thicker but a quality oil in the right grade MIGHT help. If it's too far gone then you're out of luck

J series (4 cylinder) bellhousing vs H series (V6) will definitely be different but can't confirm if it's just the bellhousing or entire gearbox
