There are boots available to fit around without pulling them out, ask at auto shops.
But I have never tried them, so no idea how good they are.

Passenger side is easy to remove, but drivers can be a bitch, lots of disassembling to slide the inner cv out of diff.

Theres circlip on outer end of outer cv behind the free wheel hub.
And 3 bolts on inner for passenger side.
And drivers side slides into diff.

I had to do mine to get a RWC. Wasn't too difficult. I took the whole passenger side apart, but I also needed to do the A arm bushes, so if it was just the boot, just drop the shaft out, take it apart and change the boot.

I'd recommend doing both ends (inner and outer) while you have it apart, a boot is like $15, may as well change both while you're there.

No, circlip pliers and/or 2 screw drivers to hook it out, on mine anyway, guess there could be different types.

Here is a document I put together after dealing with Boot damage on a SWB '96 Tracker (Vitara) I once owned:

http://acksfaq.com/cvhalfshaft.htm

The short side axle shaft is a pain to remove. I went ahead and removed both the strut bolts and the A-arm ball joint in order to remove the shaft for "re-booting". In retrospect, I could have done it with only the strut bolts removed. Since I had the unit apart, I completely cleaned out the old grease and then reapplied new grease to the joint before installing the new boot.

Split boots are, in my opinion, a waste of money.

Zip (sometimes called "baker") ties work only in an emergency as they degrade with exposure to the elements. Use the steel bands that come with the boots.

I hope that this helps!
